For some reason, my Facebook algorithm has started showing me posts from various NYPD precincts proudly showing off the fi****ms they confiscated during their shifts.
It was a reminder of how drastically different firearm laws are here in Arkansas compared to New York City. We are in the same country, but legally, it’s completely different worlds.
Thinking about traveling this summer, or just curious how our local laws stack up against the big city? If you take a firearm across state lines without checking local regulations, you could be looking at an automatic felony.
Here is a quick look at the massive legal divide between the Natural State and the Big Apple:
Arkansas vs. New York City Gun Laws
Permitless / Constitutional Carry
Arkansas: YES. Anyone 18+ who can legally possess a firearm can carry open or concealed without a state license.
NYC: ABSOLUTELY NOT. Carrying a loaded firearm without a highly restrictive local permit is a violent felony carrying mandatory prison time.
Concealed Carry Permits
Arkansas: Optional. Mostly used for out-of-state reciprocity or carrying in specific enhanced zones.
NYC: Mandatory. Requires a multi-step process including a 16-hour classroom course, 2-hour live-fire test, in-person interview, and character references.
Gun Registration
Arkansas: None required for gun owners or fi****ms.
NYC: Strict registration. Every single handgun must be officially licensed, approved, and tied directly to your specific permit.
Arkansas heavily favors individual Second Amendment rights and operates on a permitless system. Meanwhile, NYC has some of the strictest regulations in the nation, where ignorance of local mandates will land you in a jail cell fast. Before you pack your bags and hit the road, make sure you know the laws of every state you are crossing into.
For entertainment purposes only, I’ve taken some of those photos of NYPD confiscated fi****ms that have popped up in my feed and paired them with potential "suspects." Enjoy the slideshow. 😉
