The list of questions is the easy part of your citizenship interview.

Studying the answers matters.

But it isn’t what decides how your interview goes.

And the thing that trips up the most people isn’t the history questions.

One of the questions on your citizenship test can open a door to your own deportation.

20+ years of sitting next to clients in naturalization interviews has taught me one thing.

The questions you study are only part of the story.

If you’re preparing for your N-400 interview, know what you’re walking into.

And if something in your past worries you, talk to an immigration attorney before your interview. Not in it.

One thing about this marriage timeline makes immigration officers look twice.

It comes down to immigrant intent. When a marriage happens close to a visa expiration, timing can raise questions.

Every case turns on its own facts.
Those facts decide the color flag.

Drop your situation in the comments and I’ll tell you what color flag it is.

Marriage doesn’t make an overstay a non-issue.

Marriage-based green card cases are getting a harder look.

Four details shape how I read a case like this.
The timeline of the overstay.
The type of visa.
How strong the marriage is.
Whether there were any attempts to leave the country.

Same marriage. Different details. Different flag.

Drop your situation in the comments and I’ll tell you what color flag it is.

I’m seeing the same mistake in immigration cases over and over in 2026.

People aren’t prepared enough and they aren’t honest enough with their immigration attorney.

Your attorney can only work with what they know.

Sometimes there are too many red flags in a file. Filing anyway could put you at serious risk.

Be honest. Be prepared. Know before you file.

Drop your situation in the comments and I’ll tell you where you stand.

Tonight in Washington, D.C., our firm was honored with the Advocate of the Year award from the Human Trafficking Legal Center for our work helping secure a trafficking survivor’s freedom.

After being trafficked to the United States and becoming pregnant, she sought protection. Instead, she was detained by ICE and spent months in detention during her postpartum recovery.

Alongside dedicated partners and pro bono organizations across the country, we fought for her release, and together, we helped bring her home.

We are grateful for this recognition and for everyone who stood beside her. Above all, we honor her courage. No survivor should have to fight for freedom after asking for help.

Marrying a U.S. citizen doesn’t automatically make you eligible for a green card. And for some people, this mistake turns their life upside down.

Many people assume they can just file and fix their status. It isn’t that simple.

If there was never a legal entry into the country, a denial can send you to immigration court. Now you’re in removal proceedings.

It can happen with old removal orders too. Some people have one from childhood and don’t know it.

Know exactly where you stand before you file.

Mistake 2 of 4 in our series on costly immigration mistakes.

I’ve watched people turn a case they should have won into a deportation order.

It often starts with “I can handle this on my own.”

Here's the problem with that: the room for error is basically gone.

A missing piece can mean an outright denial.

An incomplete application can even put you in removal proceedings.

Know where you stand before you file.

Mistake 1 of 4. Watch the full video on YouTube! Link in comments.

Winnable cases turn into deportation orders over small mistakes.

I’ve seen it happen. 22 years of practice. Over 15,000 cases.

The same preventable mistakes keep walking through my door.

Most of them start small.

And most people don’t find out until it’s too late.

I’m sharing everything I wish my clients knew before they ever sat down with me.

Filing before you know your record can change everything.

You can live in the U.S. for years and feel settled.

Then you apply to adjust status. That's when an old case can come to light.

An old immigration court case doesn't disappear on its own.

Nobody contacting you for years doesn't mean nothing is there.

Find out what's in your record before you file.

Drop your situation in the comments and I'll tell you where you stand.
