The Baton Rouge Chapter of the Federal Bar Association was honored to host the Honorable John W. deGravelles on October 14, 2026, for an engaging CLE presentation, “Trying a Mass Disaster: Reflections on the Deepwater Horizon Litigation.”

Judge deGravelles shared firsthand insights from his experience serving on the plaintiff’s trial team in one of the largest trials in history. He also reflected on the complex legal issues faced by the Honorable Carl Barbier in managing this landmark litigation.

Thank you to Judge deGravelles for sharing his valuable perspective and to everyone who joined us for this outstanding educational program!

Several of our members were honored to join our colleagues from the New Orleans Chapter of the Federal Bar Association for its annual luncheon featuring a very special guest speaker, Justice Amy Coney Barrett.

The Baton Rouge Chapter of the Federal Bar Association was thrilled to host our Annual Summer Law Clerk Happy Hour at Bayes Oyster Bar on June 25th, celebrating the next generation of the legal profession.

The evening brought together summer law clerks, judges, attorneys, and FBA members for an opportunity to build relationships, share experiences, and strengthen connections within our federal legal community. Events like these help introduce future lawyers to the practice of federal law while fostering the professional relationships that will shape our bar for years to come.

This leadership opportunity supports access to justice by coordinating volunteer attorney scheduling, monitoring appointments, processing reimbursement requests, and preparing summary reports for the Help Desk program serving self-represented litigants.

The position requires only a small monthly time commitment and pays $100 per hour.
