“I’d love to move, but I can’t give up my rate.”
Fair. A low rate is worth real money. But it’s rarely the whole picture.
The storage unit. The extra gas and tolls. The addition you’ve been quoted on twice. The room you rearranged instead of moving. Those are payments too. They just never make it into the comparison.
So put it all on one line: what this house really costs you each month, what a new one would cost, and what a sale would actually net you. Then ask whether the difference buys back something you’d want every single day.
Sometimes it doesn’t, and staying is the right call. Sometimes the number is a lot smaller than you expected.
