Attorney Timothy P.

The East Carolina Law Group is the brainchild of its founder Attorney Timothy P. and was launched on 1 December 2016 after much deliberation and planning. moved to eastern North Carolina in 2005 while he was stationed at Naval Station Norfolk in the United States Navy. During his time in the military, Timothy volunteered as a Fire Fighter with the Town of Edenton from 2005-2011 which had been a l

ife-long passion of his. Towards the end of his military career, he felt called to the practice of law and after completing his undergraduate education and Master's degree in Legal Studies was accepted and enrolled at Regent University School of Law in the summer of 2011. In 2012, Timothy began an internship with his former law firm Gunther Law Group in Hertford, North Carolina where he also completed approximately 18 months of supervised practice under the principal attorney, Rachel S. Gunther, Esq. Following his graduation from law school 2014 and subsequent admission to practice, Timothy opened a new office of Gunther Law Group in Manteo, North Carolina and his practice quickly took off. In November 2016, having been through two (2) previous office/firm start-ups with Gunther Law Group, Timothy announced that he would be leaving the firm and opening his own location. The current location was selected and opened officially on 1 December 2016 as The Law Office of Timothy P. Koller, PLLC and in January of 2017 with the addition of a new attorney, the North Carolina State Bar authorized the firm to assume the name, The East Carolina Law Group. E.C.L.G. has now grown to have 4 attorneys and three full time dedicated staff members! THE MISSION:

Our prayers go out to Attorneys Mary Harris and Jeffrey Whitley who were shot on friday by the opposing party to a procedural hearing. They are stable and expected to recover. Please pray for them.

Stay safe, stay vigilant, and carry a gun. Its time to pass statutes allowing ALL members of the bar to carry in court and on courthouse property. As the supreme court said in New York Rifle and Pistol Assn. V. Bruen, the 2nd amendment is not a second class right.

HISTORY LESSON ON DIVORCE: Prior to the reign of Henry VIII, there was no civil divorce under the law. Marriage and its end was controlled by Canon Law of Ecclestiastical Law, not the state. But under Canon Law, marriage ended at time of death.

In the 1300's and 1400's in Catholic Germany, one could end their marriage by hiring a "fight master" and ending the marriage if grounds alleged were sufficient, with the Church's blessing. The victor was seen as chosen by God as virtuious, and the vanquished was seen as the guilty party.

In the engraving below, we see how this was done. This was called "Trial By Ordeal" and the parties were sewen into canvas or linnen one-piece garments to prevent cheating, and the husband had to stand in a hole in the middle of the arena. He was given a large wooden club, and the wife got a sack with a large rock. The husband was forbidden from leaving the hold on pain of death. The wife was free to move about the arena.

They would effectively clobber each other to death, and the victor was seen as the virtuous one.

Aside from the clubs, somethings have not changed.
