by Ashley Hall, staff attorney It’s a new year. Time for a fresh start. And yet. When January rolls around, we all have to reconcile our decisions from the last eight+ weeks prior -- the food we bought (and consumed), the gifts we gave, the holiday parties we went all out for. All of which can com...

PSA:
The U.S. Bankruptcy Court is aware of an active telephone spoofing campaign using various phone numbers that belong to the court.

Spoofing occurs when a caller deliberately falsifies the information transmitted to your caller ID display to disguise their identity. If you answer, the caller uses scam scripts to try to steal your money or valuable personal information, which can be used in fraudulent activity.

The U.S. Bankruptcy Court will never call you directly and ask for sensitive personal or banking information. If you have received a spoofing call using the court’s telephone number, please do the following:

Note the time the caller contacted you; and,
Contact the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to file a complaint at 1-877-382-4357, or online at the FTC's ReportFraud website: https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/
Filing a complaint with the FTC will help federal law enforcement identify and prosecute those responsible for this spoofing activity.

Protect your community by reporting fraud, scams, and bad business practices

If anyone is trying to reach me, I do use Tmobile cellular service for my work phone. As the provider currently has a nationwide outage, best way to contact me is by email or on Facebook! Hoping they get that issue resolved soon.

Normally I'd be reminding everyone to get their extensions filed by tomorrow. But we've got a few more months.
Attorneys are essential in the shutdown. I'm still seeing clients in the office on an as needed basis, with a lot of lysol between appointments. Call me or message me if you need me.

Do you have your 2019 tax prep appointment yet? My schedule is filling up - if you are an early filer, call to book now for early February!

April is drawing to a close. If you didn't file your taxes (and forgot to file for an extension) earlier this month, you can still file. If you were due a refund, why let the government keep your money.
And if you owe the government, late-filed with accurate penalty and interest calculations is infinitely better than waiting for the certified mail when the IRS catches up with you to let you know they've "assessed" your return based on the information returns received (W2, 1099s.) It's better to file, and then investigate your payment options, than to just hope they don't remember you.
