“When we don’t plan for accessibility, and we shut out people with disabilities, we’re not getting a representative sampling of the community in which the case is being heard.”

Managing Partner Jessie Weber was recently interviewed by Straight Arrow News about a lawsuit challenging the exclusion of a blind woman from jury service in New York. Jessie, along with BGL attorneys Michelle Fraling and Eve Hill, represents Emeline Lakrout, a Paralympic gold medalist who was summoned for jury service but ultimately dismissed after the court and attorneys raised concerns about whether her blindness could be accommodated. Rather than exploring assistive technology that would afford Ms. Lakrout an equal opportunity to participate, the court excused her from service. Partner Neel K. Lalchandani was quoted in a recent HuffPost article discussing a landmark federal court victory protecting opportunities for blind entrepreneurs under the Randolph-Sheppard Act. The article, now titled “Judge Rules Trump Admin Broke Law By Undermining Program For The Blind,” originally appeared under a headline the BGL team admittedly preferred: “Trump Administration Broke the Law When They Tried to Screw Over Blind People, Judge Rules.” Read more here: https://browngold.com/news/neel-k-lalchandani-was-quoted-in-huffpost-about-a-landmark-victory-protecting-blind-vendors-under-the-randolph-sheppard-act/

“The court’s decision safeguards far more than a statutory priority—it protects the livelihoods, independence, and dignity of blind entrepreneurs across the country.”
On August 1, 2026, the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland granted summary judgment to our clients, vacating a Department of Education decision that would have stripped blind vendors of the priority Congress guaranteed under the Randolph-Sheppard Act to operate dining facilities on U.S. Army installations nationwide. Brown, Goldstein & Levy is proud to have represented four blind vendors, the National Association of Blind Merchants, and the National Federation of the Blind in securing this important outcome. Congratulations to partners Neel K. Lalchandani,Joshua N. Auerbach, and Andrew D. Freeman, for their outstanding advocacy on behalf of our clients.
