CLEAT was back in the Capitol yesterday with Deputy Exec Director Jennifer Szimanski as invited testimony for the Select Committee on Governmental Oversight.
The discussion was centered around standardizing confidentiality on law enforcement personnel records. We want to thank Governor Greg Abbott for his continued support of the legislation from last session, as well as Senator Phil King and the Senate, who passed the bill multiple times last session.
CLEAT looks forward to getting this to the finish line for Texas law enforcement in the 90th. Thank you Speaker Dustin Burrows for Texas, Chair Representative Cody Thane Vasut, and Rep Cole Hefner for supporting this bill and for the interim discussions!

CLEAT Executive Director, Robert Leonard, testified on strengthening county law enforcement across Texas during the Subcommittee on County & Regional Government hearing today. His testimony focused on counties' ability to recruit, train, and retain officers.

“For decades, CLEAT has represented our county law enforcement affiliates across the state in collective bargaining negotiations...For retention purposes, there must be a focus on longevity pay and/or any financial incentive for those who invest time in the agency."
