Nerdy facts: Texas saw its fair share of residents leave in 2023, according to newly released data from the U.S. Census Bureau.

Most of those ex-Texans went all over the country.

According to the latest state-by-state migration data, more than 478,000 people packed up their things and left the Lone Star State in 2023. Fewer than the previous year when Texas saw almost 494,000 people leave.

As it was last year, California was the top-receiving state of former Texans at just over 38,000 people.

Other popular options for moving Texas residents were Florida (37,781 people), Colorado (32,150), Oklahoma (31,506), and Georgia (20,923). Delaware was the state that had the least amount of former Lone Star State residents move there.

Despite losing nearly 478,000 people last year, however, Texas more than made up that number thanks to over 611,000 people moving into the state, the Census determined.

That’s far less than the 668,000 who relocated to Texas in 2022.

As for overseas, Texas saw a total of 264,501 residents move to the state from another country.

Texas received the largest influx of newest residents from California at 93,970, followed by Florida (50,513), Oklahoma (29,743), New York (29,610), and Louisiana (28,458).
