FAQ: What happens if I miss a divorce hearing in Texas?

Missing a divorce hearing can lead to serious consequences depending on the type of hearing. Possible outcomes may include the judge proceeding without your input, a default judgment, loss of the opportunity to present evidence, or even contempt of court in extreme situations.

If an emergency prevents you from attending, notify your attorney immediately so they can request a rescheduling or take other steps to protect your case.

FAQ: Can a prenuptial agreement address rental property and income?

Yes. A prenuptial agreement can clearly define who owns certain property, how rental income will be treated during the marriage, and what will happen to those assets if the marriage ends in divorce.

Having these terms in place can help reduce uncertainty and make property division more straightforward if a divorce occurs.

If you have questions about whether a prenup makes sense for your situation, our team can help!

For many families, pets are more than property - they are part of the family.

In Texas, pets are generally treated as property in a divorce, which means the court may determine who keeps the pet as part of the property division process. Factors like ownership, daily care, and whether the pet was a gift can all play a role in the outcome.

Understanding how Texas law approaches these situations can help you prepare for important decisions during your divorce.
