Her first office was a broom closet under the stairs. She cleaned it out, painted it, and got to work. Today she runs her own publishing company from a room with windows.
Meet Michelle Savage, founder of Sulit Press, the publisher behind Law Moms.
1/ She started with whatever space she could get
First it was that closet under the stairs. Then a garage. She didn't wait for the right office or the right moment. She worked with what she had and kept going until the work outgrew the space. That's how Sulit Press got built, one cramped room at a time.
2/ She built a career some people might call a detour
Michelle danced in New York, ran a catering business out of her Brooklyn apartment, and went to massage therapy school because the hours fit around her kids. Later came writing, content marketing, and eventually publishing. It never looked like a straight line. It got her here anyway.
3/ She bet on herself when the math said don't
A couple of years ago, newly single again, Michelle took the money she had and put it into a year-long program that cost more than she used to make in a year. Then sales went quiet. She said it felt like riding one of those old wooden roller coasters that shake so hard you just hold on. But she didn't fold.
