Early voting for the Texas Midterm elections starts October 19th and runs through October 30th. The decisions made by elected officials can shape the policies, funding, programs, and systems that affect our clients, our communities, and the social work profession. As social workers, we work with people and communities every day and see firsthand how public policy can impact access to resources, services, housing, health care, education, and other supports. Meet this month’s NASW-TX Member Spotlight: Shandra “Renae” Stone, LCSW, LVN, Adjunct Professor, and Doctoral Candidate! Renae joined NASW in 2011 to connect with other social work professionals, stay informed, and support ethical practice, advocacy, and lifelong learning. Renae currently works as a Medical Social Worker with Creative Solutions and Platinum Palliative Care & Hospice and as an Adjunct Professor at East Texas A&M University. She is also pursuing her doctoral degree at Walden University and serves as the Region 4 Representative on the NASW-Texas Board of Directors. Outside of social work, Renae is also the owner of Logan’s Barbershop & More, named after her granddaughter, although she jokes that she doesn’t actually cut hair! Interested in helping shape the future of NASW? NASW Texas is seeking two members to fill interim Delegate Assembly positions through June 30, 2027. The NASW Delegate Assembly is the national decision-making body of NASW, and Texas representatives help bring the perspectives and priorities of Texas social workers to the table. The Delegate Assembly meets in November, and we want to fill these positions before the meeting so Texas has full representation. Active NASW membership is required.
