To our fellow veterans and military families—if you’ve looked at a grocery receipt lately and thought, “How did we spend THAT much?”… we understand. ❤️🇺🇸
A little help is coming: the 2027 cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) is 3.6%.
And here’s a detail you might be wondering about: if you receive military retirement, Social Security, and VA disability compensation, each eligible payment can increase separately.
What might that look like? If the full 3.6% applies:
💵 $2,000 military retirement → about $72 more a month
💵 $1,500 Social Security → about $54 more
💵 $1,000 VA compensation → about $36 more
That’s approximately $162 more each month—or $1,944 over a full year.
It won’t make every rising expense disappear. But help with groceries, a utility bill, or a little extra in savings? That matters.
One thing to clear up: COLA is the annual increase for existing military retirement and Social Security benefits. Headlines about active-duty pay raises don’t mean military retirees receive another raise on top.
These examples are before applicable deductions, offsets, or rounding. Some military retirement plans and first-year retirees follow different rules, so check your own benefit statements for exact amounts and payment dates.
As retired Army veterans ourselves, we know these are more than numbers. They’re part of how we take care of our families and plan for what comes next.
