Placer county 📈

California's growth is moving inland!

Nearly 700,000 people have left California’s largest coastal metro areas since 2020 and much of that growth is moving inland. Placer County is helping lead that shift. A new look at California’s fastest-growing communities puts Placer at the top, with 1.4% population growth from January 2025 to January 2026.

Why? Affordability, quality of life, available space and a growing economy are helping make communities like Roseville and the broader Placer region increasingly attractive to families, workers and businesses. The Spot Auburn had a little adventure today — thankfully with a very happy, smell-free ending! 🦨❤️

First of all, I’m becoming pretty convinced that animals understand us—and maybe even communicate with each other.

Today, a gray cat appeared in my yard for the first time ever and kept drawing my attention toward the picket fence. That’s when I discovered a very robust Mr. Skunk completely wedged between the fence boards.

I watched him for more than 30 minutes as he tried desperately to reposition himself and get free. When he started struggling less and eventually went limp, I got really worried.

After numerous calls to Fish & Game and several other agencies without finding anyone who could come help, I decided Mr. Skunk and I were going to have to figure this out together—even if it meant risking getting “skunked.” 😂

So there I was, army crawling toward a skunk, talking softly to him and telling him, “I’m here to help you. Everything is going to be okay.” Amazingly, he seemed to settle down and let us help.

By this point, the Auburn Police Department had kindly sent officers after my many calls looking for someone to rescue him. Officer Johnson removed one of the fence boards, and our chunky little bandit was finally FREE! 🦨

He even stuck around long enough to accept a bowl of water before heading on his way.

A huge THANK YOU to the Auburn Police Department and Officer Johnson for taking the time to help one of Auburn’s four-legged residents today.

And perhaps the biggest miracle of all…

Not one person got sprayed. 😂

As many of you know, several years ago I purchased the landmark yellow Victorian directly across from the Historic Auburn Courthouse, wrapping the corner of Auburn Folsom Road and Lincoln Way.

I have worked on this beautiful old home almost daily for years, and she has truly become the ultimate labor of love. To me, she represents so much of my “Auburn Amy” journey — a journey that started with picking up free furniture on the side of the road, restoring and flipping forgotten treasures, sharing old Auburn postcards and stories, and eventually turning that passion into the special destination I named The Spot Auburn.

The City of Auburn generously approached me about opening the property for short-term furnished rentals to help accommodate the growing number of visitors coming to experience our beautiful historic town. I took that opportunity to create something I hoped would feel just as special on the inside as Auburn does outside.

Every unit has been thoughtfully designed, renovated, furnished and staged by me, with its own personality and little pieces of Auburn woven throughout.

I have always felt less like the “owner” of this majestic old home and more like her caretaker for this chapter of her history. It has been an incredible privilege to bring her back to life and now share her with others.
