On June 6th our world was turned upside down as we found out our baby boy, Luca, at 33 weeks and 3 days, no longer had a heart beat. My wife, Emily, had to endure what no mother ever should; inducing labor to birth our still son. We lost a piece of our soul and heart that day. Those 29.5 hours in the hospital were the worst of our lives. When he was born we held Luca, kissed him, wrapped him in a blanket, and cried. He looked just like his brothers. Our world had come to a complete stop.
July 14th, we laid our sweet Luca to rest at the New Auburn Cemetery. It was beautiful, heart-wrenching, hard, and peaceful all at once. He was surrounded with love by his parents, brothers, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. The only comfort we have is knowing that Luca is at peace and in paradise with Jesus. We have an angel baby to watch over us and his two brothers until we all reunite someday.
It has been a very heavy last month and there are no words for this type of loss and grief. Its a day by day process of doing everything we can to support one another as husband and wife, and helping Xander and Niko as well. The saying of "it takes a village" has a whole new meaning for us. Thankfully for our faith, our families, and the people in our lives who have already helped us, we are managing best we can. There are not enough "thank yous" that we can say.
Each and every baby is truly a miracle and blessing. There isn't much in life that matters more than family, friends, and your community, which we have been incredibly blessed to have around us.
Sharing all of this isn't easy and I most definitely haven't been myself this last month and probably never will be the same Tyler I was. Time will heal and give direction moving forward. You just never know what someone is going thru, so lead with grace and love.
After his birth, we learned Luca means "bringer of light" and it is with sorrow and joy, pain and love, grief and happiness that we believe God is working through all of this and had bigger plans for him. Today was supposed to be his due date.
