Homebuyers should always get a home inspection during the contract period. Those home inspections cover most home systems, but additional inspections/tests are avaible such as mold, lead paint, sewer scope or radon. Atlanta is Zone 1 for EPA radon potential, meaning high risk. For buyers who elect to have a radon test performed, they almost never monitor radon after that initial 48 hour test.
Radon varies due to a multitude of factors including temperature, pressure, rain, and aging mitigation systems. The more you monitor levels in your home and understand what impacts readings, you’ll see what influences levels in your home. For example: our radon is currently in the low 2’s as we just came off a week of rain, which pushes radon out of the ground and into our homes.
Did you test for radon when purchasing your current home? Have you monitored radon since?
