Every year, Caplan Cobb LLC hosts an event for Atlanta-area law clerks that focuses on post-clerkship career paths and features panelists from across practice settings—boutique firms, large firms, and public interest. This year's event was a happy hour at Wild Leap Brewery that featured Ellen Min (King & Spalding), Darrius Woods (Southern Poverty Law Center), and Caplan Cobb attorneys Jarred Klorfein, Jessica Caleb, with Caplan Cobb associate Alex Estroff moderating. Between them, the panelists clerked across the Northern District of Georgia, Southern District of Florida, the Southern District of Georgia and Georgia’s Supreme Court. In January, the FBI seized election records from Fulton County relating to the 2020 presidential election. Acting on behalf of journalist Justin Glawe, Caplan Cobb LLC attorneys Sarah Brewerton-Palmer and Alan Long, along with co-counsel Cross Kincaid Baskam, filed a motion with the federal court in Atlanta to unseal the court records showing how the government obtained its search warrant.

Last week, the court granted our client’s motion, ordering the government to publicly file unredacted copies of the affidavits used by the government to obtain the warrant. As the court put it: "It is undeniable that the 2020 election and the seizure of the election records are historically significant matters and that granting full access to the Affidavits is likely to promote public understanding of these events." Brittany Lewis just hit her five-year anniversary with the firm, and we're marking the occasion by announcing her well-earned promotion to Senior Paralegal. Before joining us, Brittany started her legal career in Honolulu while simultaneously bringing over a decade of e-commerce and digital marketing experience to the table.

Brittany’s also professionally proficient in Spanish, studied abroad in Dubai and Costa Rica, and volunteers with organizations supporting at-risk youth and homeless animals.

James’s panel will focus on litigating civil RICO cases from the plaintiff’s perspective. On Friday, Caplan Cobb LLC and our co-counsel Cross Kincaid filed a motion to unseal the application for the warrant authorizing the FBI’s seizure of Fulton County’s election records last week. As our client Justin Glawe, an independent journalist, wrote in his newsletter American Doom: “This document is crucial for the public to know more about why President Donald Trump’s Justice Department seized the records, which were already scheduled to be released as part of a separate, civil matter in federal court.”

Over the weekend, the district court unsealed the search warrant affidavit and ordered it be filed by 5 p.m. tomorrow. That document will provide the public with essential context for the events unfolding in Fulton County. As this litigation proceeds, we will continue seeking public access to important information.

In a federal court filing this afternoon, we're seeking the Justice Department's affidavit that led to the unprecedented seizure of Georgia election records.
