Had a great time teaching at Emory Law School’s Kessler-Eidson Program for Trial Techniques last week with this lovely group of people. 5 years of Trial Techniques in the books!

Sydney had maybe the best oral argument ever today. One judge said the case was easy (meaning we should win) and then recognized that Sydney has been doing this type of work a long time and knows what she’s doing.

And everyone—the three Eleventh Circuit judges, the prosecutor, and Sydney—were all women, which is not very common.

We couldn’t be happier to see this order come through. Our client turned down a 10-year offer, not knowing that he would be have to serve every day of 25 years if he lost at trial. After he was sentenced to 25 years to serve, his family contacted us to see if we could help. We could—and we did!

The Court found that his attorney was ineffective for not properly advising him about the plea offer from the State. Now that we won this motion, he’ll get to accept the plea, and he should be home relatively soon. Much better than the current release date of November 28, 2046!! (See the second slide).

We were in court today with two GOATs: Brian Steel and Young Thug. And we won! Give his stuff back!

We agreed to write statements for Georgia Lawyers for the Rule of Law, and they asked us to turn the first one into an op ed to pitch to the AJC. Imagine our surprise when not only did they agree to run it, but it ended up with a full page spread in Sunday’s print edition—one of the last few editions before the AJC goes completely digital.

It helped that the topic, the bombing of suspected drug boats, became way more timely after the recent news about the orders to kill everyone on board.
