2023 has not been a good year so far for non-compete provisions and it looks like the attack on those provisions is heating up even more.   The thought is that such provisions unfairly limit an employee’s right to work, decrease wages and stifle entrepreneurship.  The opposing thought  is that ...

Effective with the 2022 renewal season (which began September 1, 2021) the Georgia Department of Revenue Motor Vehicle Division no longer issues and prints alcohol or to***co licenses on color bonded certificate paper containing a watermark. Additionally, the Department does not provide a license pick-up service or mail licenses to licensees. All alcohol and to***co licenses are available for viewing through the Georgia Tax Center (GTC) and must be printed by the licensee.

We are excited to announce the addition of Tabitha Fordham to the TFH Legal beverage-alcohol team. Help was needed for the post-COVID growth we are experiencing, and we were so lucky to find Tabitha to help us. Tabitha comes to us from the Georgia Department of Revenue where for the last 12 years she has served as an alcohol licensing and tax specialist in the Alcohol and To***co Division. We are happy to be bringing Tabitha on with us as we continue to grow!

Back in 2015, we worked with the Georgia Craft Brewers' Guild, GA legislators, and the GA Revenue Department to pass SB 63, which was the catalyst to ultimately passing SB 85, which allows breweries and distilleries to make direct-to-consumers sales. Can't believe SB 85 was 4 years ago now! But we are still behind nearly all other states when it comes to brewery laws. This year we are seeking to create new laws that will help breweries survive in this pandemic climate and thrive in a normal business climate.

Etowah Meadery wanted to also have the ability to brew beer, which was prohibited by the Alcohol & To***co Division of the Georgia Department of Revenue. We worked with ATD to generate a memorandum of understanding - that is, imposing conditions that made ATD comfortable with the idea. Etowah Meadery was the first establishment in Georgia to hold both a farm winery license and a brewery license. Cheers to that!

A few years ago, when Viking Alchemist first came to us with its business plan to be one of the first brick and mortar meaderies in Georgia, we worked with our contacts in the Alcohol & To***co Division of the Georgia Department of Revenue to persuade them that a meadery is eligible to hold a Georgia Farm Winery license - without that, the brick and mortar concept fails. Go grab some mead at one of the three Viking Alchemist locations!

Award winning meadery located in Smyrna, Georgia. Voted "Best Mead in Georgia" in the Georgia Trustees Wine & Spirits Challenge three years in a row. Open Thursday - Saturday.
