The Medical Community Can Help Stop Elder Abuse

Elder abuse is an insidious problem which often occurs in "broad daylight," and many signs of abuse are not difficult to spot. The medical community can help stop the abuse. As discussed in this Medscape article, by simply taking a look or asking the right questions, a medical provider can identify neglect and physical abuse and help protect the senior from the abuser, who often is the family member that acts as the primary caregiver for that senior.

Older adults with dementia are much more likely to be victims of abuse at the hands of caregivers. Researchers are working on a tool to help physicians identify mistreatment during examinations.

MLK Day of Service

As always, on MLK weekend, I was excited to represent Stitch N K'vetch at Congregation Beth Shalom and help adults and kids create scarves for the homeless and infant caps.
