Remember the story of Freddie Gray, 7 years ago when he was killed by Baltimore police while riding in the back of a police van? Today, we bring you the story of Randy Cox. On June 19th, (Juneteenth), Randy Cox was arrested for illegal possession of a firearm and was being transported in a police van to New Haven, Ct. Police headquarters. Just like in the Freddie Gray, case, Randy Cox was handcuffed in the back of the van with no seat belts or restraints. While being transported, the officer driving the van stopped abruptly to avoid a crash according to him. That abrupt stop caused Mr. Cox to slide head first into the back wall of the van. Instead of stopping immediately, the officer kept on driving for several minutes. Eventually, the officer did pull over and call for an ambulance. Rather than waiting for the ambulance, he told them to meet them at the precinct. From there they dragged Mr. Cox from the van rather than waiting for the ambulance to get there. They mocked him, and refused to believe that he was injured at first. Randy Cox is now on a respirator, feeding tubes, and has large paralysis from the chest down. The officers treatment of this man whose neck they just broke shows how they truly felt about their fellow human being. Everybody involved in this horrific case needs to be held accountable. Prayers go out to the Cox family as they will be dealing with a long recovery process.
