His answer is honest in a way most attorneys won't be.

You cannot turn it off. He has stopped trying. The people he works with at Butler Kahn and at other firms are his friends, so they show up in his personal life too. He thinks about cases in the shower, which is why there is a waterproof notepad and pencil hanging in there. He wakes up in the middle of the night with case ideas. He also texts his wife from the office and leaves to pick up the kids when he needs to.

The lines blur in both directions. For a trial practice where the work is part of who you are, not just what you do, that turns out to be okay.

Butler Kahn attorney Graham Roberts reacts to a tanker truck driver who crossed multiple lanes of traffic, failed to maintain his lane, and forced another vehicle into oncoming traffic from the opposite direction.

The result was a serious wreck. The cause, on the surface, was a commercial driver who did not keep his vehicle where it was supposed to be.

Cases like this involve commercial insurance policies, federal trucking regulations, and evidence that has to be preserved fast before it disappears. We handle them all the time.

What's the worst advice Jeb Butler ever got? Be patient.

In personal life, sure. Patience is a virtue. For a trial lawyer pushing a client's case, it's the enemy. Every day a case sits is a day the other side gets more comfortable.

The mindset has to be different. What can I do today to move this forward? File the brief. Request the hearing. Draft a proposed order for the judge to consider. Just keep pressing.
