My client and I were ready for a jury trial on a misdemeanor charge on this stormy morning, but a more favorable plea recommendation was successfully negotiated two hours later, allowing my client to avoid 90 days in jail and other penalties in exchange for a reduced charge, no jail time, and more favorable terms.
Everyone left the court happy.

Today at State Court, I acted as On-Duty Attorney for misdemeanor arraignments and had a productive day helping indigent defendants navigate the hearing process while continuing to provide support for their cases.

Flags were still lowered to half-staff to honor the Gwinnett County Superior Court Judge Deborah R. Fluker who passed away on April 18, 2026, following a battle with cancer. A trailblazer, she was the first African American Superior Court Judge in Gwinnett County, known for her dedication to justice and integrity.

Life is short. Time is all we have. Make it count.

A beautiful spring morning presents an ideal day to commence the week!Today marks the arraignment day in State Court for a client accused of trespassing and obstructing a police officer. Despite his prolonged six-month incarceration due to inability to post bond, my client remains resolute in his decision to proceed to trial. The concept of 'speedy trial' is often subject to interpretation, typically deemed 'reasonable' within the confines of court schedules. In a county with a population exceeding 1 million, trial delays of up to a year are not uncommon. Consequently, my client will likely endure further detention while asserting his innocence. Without access to the evidence against him, providing informed counsel regarding potential plea advantages is challenging. Moreover, any plea offer extended has been rejected based on his steadfast assertion of innocence. Ultimately, this situation underscores the harsh reality: it is prudent to avoid entanglements with the law or be prepared to incur the costs of defending one's innocence.

Trial Day today: Misdeameanor Simple Battery- Family Violence. Result: case dismissed for want of prosecution. In other words, the charges were dropped, the case was closed, and my client's record remains clear.
I also took the opportunity to counsel my client on avoiding similar situations in the future. Having a supportive family does not justify abusive behavior. Many of my clients appreciate not only my legal guidance but also my willingness to listen and encourage them to make positive life changes. 💯
