Some Interviewing Tips From My Personal Experience:
➡️ For nervousness and anxiety say some form of this when offered to interview and/or from the start of the interview. "My apologies, although my skills and expertise are top notch, for some reason interviews makes me very nervous therefore forgive me inadvance"... this way you prepare them and most understand.
➡️Pray God or whichever higher power to speak on your behalf and opens their hearts and minds. And know that what is for you is yours and be confident in His timing.
➡️PRACTICE and PREPARE... My practice was in experience lol. Search the internet about interviews. Specifically search the company and their interview style. You can find a lot of info just randomly searching. Folks will share info on any and everything.
➡️Go in confident, most of us have been here before so use that. Think before speaking, take the time to gather your thoughts and words. Keep it short and simple. Be prepared with a story for those STAR questions and use the same one each time.
➡️Make it up and act... these folks don't know you or know about anything about what you've done. The goal is to sell yourself so sell it. Be who they need.
➡️Prepare to ask questions about them as well (turn overs, raises, bonuses, compensation, vacation, environment, promotion). They are not only interviewing you but you are also interviewing them. This make a big difference because most be so ready to leave they don't ask any f/u questions.
➡️Study the company and incorporate what you've learned.
➡️NEVER speak bad about your manager or the company past or present. It is not a good look. If asked why you left or leaving simply say something generic like "growth opportunities". And if needed to explain speak on what they were not able to provide and what you are looking for in a positive way.
➡️It is always said... Its best to have a job when looking. This is correct but not just from the recruiting employer pov but from yours as well. When you already have a job you are more confident and in my experience, you may interview better because frankly if you don't get it then oh well you still got a job🤷🏾♀️. Lol.
Just an extra tidbit to get to the interview stage....
➡️Tailor your resume to fit the position. It can be generic but make sure there are a few key skills that they are searching for or will fit the job description. This is also a great way to keep your resume updated. For example I have a financial resume and a medical resume and only tweak them if its absolutely necessary but either would suffice for any career in either field and I update them annually.
I hope this helps. Please feel free to add any additional suggestions in the comments. ~LTJ
