Today's Pro Tip: When your lawyer asks you to "send us all the documents," "all" means everything. Please do not curate. Curating is what lawyers do. We need everything to advise you.

Today, Heather started with a Status Hearing in a contested custody matter where she represents the kids as Guardian ad Litem. The Parties seemed angered by dealing with attorneys, the Court and a GAL, because they did not think that a divorce with kids would be so complicated. Courts, lawyers, and GAL's have things that they are ethically required to do once you make the system a part of your family by filing.

Pro Tip: If you aren't sure you are ready to have the system decide your family's future, do not hire lawyers and file for divorce without careful consideration of how the system works. Divorce, like marriage, is not something to be entered into lightly.

BRAG!!! So, we won our recent appeal in Zulke v. AC&DC Power Technologies, because my team, Vickie Kealy and Jill Burgtorf are the BEST!!!! We crushed that brief and the Court of Appeals basically quoted the brief verbatim and then went even further than we asked them to go. Good job Team Wright Attorneys!

Since our leaders haven’t called for it, except our Pastor at Mount Paran Church, I will follow Dr. Cooper’s Idea. This Friday, June 12th, The Wright Firm will be closed for a day of confession, prayer, and fasting...we are shutting down business for this day to pray about the hurt and suffering caused by systemic racism and injustice. We are confessing for the sin and hurt caused by hate. We are fasting for healing. And we are praying for love to grow in our hearts. We are praying for the safety of protestors and that their voices will be heard. We are praying for law enforcement and that they will demand better of themselves. We will pray for one another. On Friday, I will make my page public for posts for prayers, comments, and to share the love. I am asking my choir, my friends, and my judge and lawyer friends to think about doing the same thing or if you have to work, then make sure to post. If we make this public, we can be together in this time for prayers and healing.

And, this doesn’t mean we stop the work of protest and seeking change; rather it means we share with our neighbors in a time of quiet solidarity. We exercise regret and remorse. We stop to cry. To apologize. To hurt together. We stop for a single day, we fast, and we aplogize for letting our world and our country become a place of suffering. We ask our Creator for forgiveness, regardless of your name for God.

I hope that you all will participate too.

To allow our employees time with their families and for a little rest during this historic crisis, The Wright Firm is closing until April 1st. We are choosing to get some much needed rest and self-quarantine at home with our loved ones in order to protect our community. We each have orders to read, play outside, and do whatever brings us joy during these days to reset and be ready to hit the ground running when the threat level is decreased. We will be checking email and messages during this hiatus in order to handle any emergencies, since we have remote capabilities. We urge everyone to take courage during these times and to reset. Thank you for your continued trust.

The Wright Firm is open for the foreseeable future. We meet with Clients by telephone, teleconference, and email regularly, so our business model has not changed. Since there are only three people in the office, we are at very little risk for infection and need to ensure that our Clients are informed about their important legal matters. We will be limiting in-person meetings and working to ensure that matters get back on track as soon as the Courts are running full-steam again. Thank you for your patience.

Thanks for the support!!!
