This is my fourth video in a series of How To Secretly Read a Script on Video! The process has been advancing in each video, and this episode focuses on using a camera with a zoom lens and an ordinary tablet to create a free teleprompter which will allow you to maintain great eye contact with the camera while reading. No one will be able to tell that you're reading!

Here's the third part in my five-part series that will teach you how to read from a script/notes while you're doing a video presentation--even if it is live on a Zoom or Teams call. The best part: no one will know that you're reading if you follow these steps!

Here's Part 2 in the latest five-part series. This is how to do a pre-recorded video while reading from a script. I'll show you how to get a video out there in the fewest steps, and you'll sound natural and conversational in your delivery!

Thanks for being patient while I was off the air for a few weeks! I'm happy to be back!

In November 2021, I made a video about how to read a script on video without anyone knowing. Several people reached out to me and asked me to explain it in more detail, so this is the first of five videos that will focus on the best techniques for reading scripts on video effortlessly.

This video will teach you the skills needed to read a script in a conversational tone so that you don't sound like a robot. Subsequent videos will cover how to read a script on a pre-recorded video; how to read a script on live video calls such as Zoom or Teams; how to use an old camera and tablet that you may have lying around to create a "poor man's" teleprompter; and, finally, how to use an inexpensive ($200) teleprompter to achieve professional results.

There's something in these videos for every skill level and every budget. I hope this can help you with your videos and presentations!

This is the tenth and final video in the series of videos giving advice on what to do when you encounter the most common crises in public speaking: What Do You Do When Technology Breaks Down?

This is the "tough love" episode. There is no magic formula or "pro tip" that can save a speaker who has not practiced sufficiently to avoid reliance on his or her slides.

If a speaker can't present without slides...then the speaker isn't ready to present. A presentation is an oral performance--it has nothing to do with written material.

I hope this video will inspire you to embrace this idea. It may seem daunting, but I truly believe that you will achieve an evolutionary step in your presentation skills if you learn to do it all without slides. Good luck!

Every communicator needs to speak to "tough crowds" from time to time. The audience isn't excited about the message, and they may even be hostile to the speaker. Delivering contentious or unpopular news puts the speaker at a disadvantage.

Here I discuss two tips to help soften a crowd: researching the audience and establishing a personal connection with the audience members. I hope this helps you in your own presentations--especially those difficult presentations where you hope the audience won't "shoot the messenger!"

Are you giving a big presentation to a large group of colleagues--or perhaps sitting through an intense job interview where you have just a few moments to sell yourself? These kinds of rare events define careers.

So, what do you pack for such an event? What essential items need to be in your car? If you haven't thought about this, then please enjoy this short video in which I share what I believe are the "must have" backup items if there's no chance for a do-over!

Talented public speakers are prepared for even rare eventualities that could impact their performance because they know that a serious presentation is a one-shot affair. Indeed, the show MUST go on. I hope these tips will help you feel more confident knowing that you are prepared for the unexpected.

Sometimes there is an audience member who abuses his question time privileges. You know what I'm talking about--an audience member who either asks too many questions or uses Q&A time to set forth his or her own personal views on a particular subject.

This type of audience member can make things unpleasant for both the speaker and the audience. Here's a couple of tricks I've used to deal with abusive interrogators!

An audience that is lost in technology is unable to give its full attention to the speaker. If you're presenting, you'll want to do all that you can to capture and hold the attention of the audience.

Here are some ideas!

Laptops and phones have been ubiquitous in business for decades--so long that it is no longer considered rude for audience members to work on their laptops/p...

Many people are terrified about handling a public question-and-answer session because they're worried they'll be asked a question that they can't answer. This is an understandable fear!

Here's what to do if that happens:
