Temporary Protective Orders can often feel like "just a piece a paper" when you're up against someone who you suspect will violate it.
However, this alone should not stop you from obtaining a TPO if you suspect you need one.
TPOs help establish a paper trail with the court. If a TPO is violated, the consequences can be immediate arrest, misdemeanor or felony charges, heavy fines, contempt of court, and/or significant jail or prison time.
