This year’s Past Presidents Dinner of the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association was a wonderful evening and a meaningful opportunity for those of us who have led GTLA in the past to welcome in the new leadership.

This year, we thanked our outgoing president, Macon trial lawyer Josh Carroll, for his dedicated year of service and welcomed in our new president, Alan Hamilton of Shiver Hamilton Campbell. Alan’s dedication to the cause of civil justice is clear, and I am confident in his leadership of our organization in its ongoing efforts to protect the jury trial system and the citizens of Georgia who depend upon it.

Ever since serving, I am deeply aware of the sacrifices involved and most grateful for those who now carry the mantle!

Please join us in welcoming Hailey Kim to the Linley Jones team!

Hailey joins us as a Paralegal and Office Manager, bringing a strong foundation in legal support, organization, and client relations. In her short time with us, she has already become an important part of the firm.

She has assisted in preparing and filing a complaint, a summary judgment brief and an appeal, and also helped prepare for hearings. Her attention to detail, adaptability, and proactive approach have made an immediate impact.

We are excited to have Hailey on board, and she is already off to a great start.

Welcome, Hailey!

Busy members of our team not pictured include intake paralegal Jackie Werntz and law clerk Lee Lundy, who is studying for his last law school finals. Good luck, Lee!

We are so glad to be recognized as Super Lawyers for 2026 and I am particularly grateful to once again be named to the list of Top 100 Super Lawyers! I am always appreciative of the support of the bench and bar in receiving these honors.

Super Lawyers recognizes attorneys through a rigorous selection process that includes peer nominations, independent research, and peer evaluation. Only a small percentage of attorneys in each state are ultimately selected.

As legal malpractice lawyers, we bring claims against lawyers, so it is particularly meaningful to be recognized by our peers for our efforts. We remain grateful for the trust placed in our firm and committed to advocating for accountability and professionalism in the legal community.

Happy coincidence!

Yesterday, Angela and I both gave presentations on legal malpractice at the same time, at two separate CLE seminars across the street from each other in downtown Atlanta.

Different panels. Different audiences. Same subject matter.

Plaintiff's legal malpractice work is what we do every day at The Linley Jones Firm. We are always glad to provide education that helps strengthen professionalism and malpractice prevention within Georgia’s legal community.

We’re proud to share that our very own Angela Forstie will be speaking at the upcoming Professional Liability Law Section CLE hosted by the State Bar of Georgia on February 24, 2026, at the State Bar Conference Center in Atlanta.

This seminar will explore malpractice claims involving lawyers, accountants, architects, and engineers, along with practical guidance on ethics, professionalism, malpractice prevention, and insurance considerations. Attendees will also gain insight into navigating professional dilemmas with State Bar leadership.

We’re honored for Angela to join an outstanding panel of colleagues and contribute to an afternoon of learning, discussion, and connection within Georgia’s legal community.

Registration is free for section members and includes five hours of CLE credit. We hope to see you there.

Please join us in welcoming attorney Emily Bright to the Linley Jones Firm as our newest Associate.

Emily has already been a valued part of the firm while completing the final stages of her legal training, and we are excited to officially welcome her to the team. She brings a strong commitment to attentive, effective client service, along with previous legal experience that gives her a headstart in understanding the wide range of legal malpractice cases handled by the firm.

Emily earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Florida and her Juris Doctor from Georgia State University College of Law, where she was a merit-based scholar, served as President of the Public Interest Law Association, and earned her Public Interest Law & Policy Certificate. During law school, she also served as a Fulton County Magistrate Court Registered Mediator extern and a Legal Extern with the Georgia Senate.

We’re proud to have Emily on board and look forward to the impact she will make for our clients and community. Welcome to the team, Emily!

This year, I used MLK Day to recognize and remember those who have played, and continue to play, an important role in the advancement of human rights.

This included an afternoon with Martin Luther King, III, Arndrea Waters King and Chief of Staff Jennifer Gold sharing Martin’s new book, “What is My Legacy? Realizing a New Dream of Connection, Love and Fulfillment” at the Atlanta Hawks MLK Day game. Thank you so much for this occasion!

In Brookhaven, we celebrated the 10th anniversary of our MLK Day Dinner that honors and recognizes the Lynwood Trailblazers—those residents who were once students at the all-Black Lynwood Schools and who, in 1968, bravely integrated DeKalb County schools. Many thanks to keynote speaker anchor Karyn Greer of Channel 2 News, her colleague Mark Winne, and all of those with City of Brookhaven who have kept this special event going!

The practice of law leads me to some interesting places. This week, I traveled to Milledgeville, Georgia, for the deposition of an important witness— an inmate at Riverbend Correctional Facility. We got lucky that the prison allowed us to enter and take the deposition despite the terrible violence that has plagued Georgia prisons this week and resulted in the deaths of three inmates and 13 serious injuries.

Many thanks to the corrections staff and officers who worked hard to make the necessary arrangements to ensure that our visits were safe and went seamlessly. It's a tough job, and I was impressed by the professionalism of all involved and, most especially, Assistant Facility Administrator Vanessa Butts-Hawkins.

Afterward, I enjoyed the opportunity to pay a quick visit to the home of one of my favorite authors, Flannery O’Connor. Her idyllic home, now a museum known as Andalusia Farm, was quite a juxtaposition to the prison I had just left.

All in a day’s work!

I’m excited to share that the book I edited on the history of the City of Brookhaven is officially out in 2025! For me, it was a labor of love for our city and a chronicle of the ardent efforts to create it.

It was a particular joy to have my son Elijah Roth serve as Photo Editor along with Ann Marie Quill. His role involved an entire summer scouring through the extensive photo library of the communications department of the City of Brookhaven to identify the special photos that illustrate the book. He also used his talent for photography to add a few he took himself where needed.

The beautiful coffee table book showcases the diligent work of its authors and historians, Emma Jackson Pepperman, Margaret Schultz and Katie-Bryan Hubbard.

Many thanks to Mayor John Park, Brookhaven City Council, and city manager Christian Sigman without whom this project would not have been possible.
