Some people come into your life for a season.
And then there are the people who become part of your American story forever. â¤ď¸đşđ¸
This is my âAmerican mom,â Terry Martini.
Back in 1998, my family and I arrived in the USA after winning the Green Card lottery. We came with two young children, very little money, almost no English⌠and a giant belief in the American Dream.
Starting over was not glamorous. It was scary, exhausting, humbling, and beautiful all at once.
My very first job in America was at Merry Maids⌠and Terry was my first boss.
I still remember those days â learning everything from scratch, cleaning houses while trying to build a new life, driving around unfamiliar streets, practicing English word by word, paycheck by paycheck.
And somehow⌠I became her #1 elite employee, always on the board. đ
Years later, life came full circle.
In 2001, when my family bought our very first home in America, Terry became our REALTORÂŽ.
And now⌠28 years later⌠we are still here. Still connected. Still cheering each other on through lifeâs chapters.
Today we met for lunch, and sitting across from her brought back so many memories of courage, survival, growth, gratitude, and friendship.
Sometimes the American Dream is not just about houses, careers, or success.
Sometimes itâs about the people who believed in you when you were brand new to this country and didnât even know how your story would turn out yet.
Forever grateful for you, Terry.
