If you previously filed a BOI report, you may also be wondering whether you still need to update your information.

🐾 Happy National Dog Day! 🐶

Dogs bring so much more than wagging tails and happy greetings.🐕 For many older adults, they're loyal companions who encourage daily walks, provide comfort during difficult times, and offer unconditional love. They can even be a source of emotional support for individuals living with dementia and their caregivers.

Today is also a good reminder that our furry family members depend on us, too.

As you think about your estate plan, don't forget to include a plan for your pets. If something unexpected happened, who would care for them? Do your loved ones know your wishes? Making arrangements now helps ensure your faithful companion will continue to receive the love and care they deserve.

Because peace of mind means caring for every member of the family—two-legged and four-legged. ❤️🐾

"If something happens, we'll just get guardianship."

Many families assume that's a simple backup plan. Unfortunately, it usually isn't.

When a loved one with dementia loses the ability to make decisions, families without the proper legal documents may have to ask the court to appoint a guardian or conservator. The process can be time-consuming, expensive, emotionally draining, and it takes away your loved one's ability to choose who will make decisions on their behalf. Planning ahead with the right legal documents can often help families avoid this outcome.

Our latest article explains how guardianship works in Georgia, why it's often a last resort, and what you can do now to protect your loved one and your family.

💰 Are you waiting too long to use your long-term care insurance?

Many older adults think they're doing the "right" thing by saving their long-term care insurance benefits until they're absolutely necessary. But in some cases, waiting can actually mean leaving valuable benefits on the table.

In this video, Life Care Coordinator Robin Lacrimosa shares the story of a couple who delayed using their long-term care insurance because they wanted to spend "just one more summer" at home. What they didn't realize was that their policy could help pay for home care, making it possible to stay safely at home while easing the burden on the caregiving spouse.

The lesson? Long-term care insurance isn't just for assisted living or nursing homes. Used strategically, it can provide support much earlier in the care journey and help you get the full value from the policy you've paid for over the years.

🎥 Watch Robin explain why waiting too long can be a costly mistake and how thoughtful planning can help you age in place while making the most of your long-term care insurance benefits.

💰 National Financial Awareness Day reminds us that protecting your finances isn't just about growing your savings, it's about protecting your future.

Most people spend years building retirement savings, investments, and a legacy for their family. But have you considered who would manage those finances if you were suddenly unable to?

Without a properly drafted Durable Financial Power of Attorney, even a temporary illness or unexpected diagnosis could leave your loved ones unable to pay bills, manage investments, access accounts, or make important financial decisions on your behalf. In some cases, families are forced to seek a costly and time-consuming guardianship through the courts.

Estate planning is about far more than deciding who inherits your assets. It's about protecting everything you've worked so hard to build while you're still here.

This National Financial Awareness Day, take a few minutes to ask yourself:

✔️ Who would manage your finances if you couldn't?
✔️ Is your Power of Attorney up to date?
✔️ Would your family know what to do in an emergency?

A little planning today can provide tremendous peace of mind tomorrow.

⌛"We thought we had more time."⌛

It's one of the most heartbreaking things we hear from families after a loved one is diagnosed with dementia.

Many people assume a diagnosis automatically means it's too late to sign legal documents. Others wait because their loved one still seems "pretty good." The truth is, the key isn't the diagnosis, it's legal capacity. That window of opportunity can close much sooner than families expect.

If you've recently noticed memory changes or received a dementia diagnosis, don't wait to learn your options.

💼 Think your long-term care insurance company is on your side?

Think again. That's why it's so important to understand how these policies really work.

Long-term care insurance can be an incredible resource for paying for home care, assisted living, and other long-term care services, but collecting those benefits isn't always as straightforward as people expect.

In this video, Life Care Coordinator Robin Lacrimosa shares an important reality: insurance companies are businesses, and successfully navigating the claims process often depends on meeting very specific requirements.

One of the biggest mistakes families make is assuming any care provider can submit the paperwork needed for reimbursement. Unfortunately, if the required documentation isn't completed correctly, your claim could be delayed or even denied.

🎥 Watch Robin explain why understanding your policy and choosing providers who are familiar with the claims process can make all the difference.

At Kimbrough Law, we help families navigate these complexities so they can focus less on paperwork and more on caring for the people they love. If you're interested in getting that kind of support as you navigate the long-term care journey with a loved one, let's talk. Call 706.850.6910 to schedule a consultation.
