At Aspen Signature Properties, living in rhythm with the valley means respecting the incredible wildlife that shares our backyard. As summer fades into fall, local bear activity naturally peaks. Keeping our community safe and keeping Aspen’s bears wild comes down to a few essential habits.
In the Neighborhood
Whether you’re in your forever home or enjoying a luxury rental, secure property practices prevent unwanted visits:
Lock down waste: Use bear-resistant, latched containers and store bins inside a locked garage or shed until pickup.
Secure vehicles & entryways: Never leave food or scented items inside parked cars. Keep windows, ground-floor doors, and garage bays shut.
Eliminate attractants: Scrub outdoor grills after use and temporarily bring in bird feeders or pet food.
Out on the Trails & Around Town
Spotting wildlife is part of the Aspen experience, but keeping your distance is crucial:
Give them space: Never approach, follow, or crowd a bear for a photo.
Extra caution around cubs: A mother bear with cubs requires a much wider berth. Cubs are a clear sign to step back immediately.
