When going through any custody or legal process, it can be extremely difficult emotionally and mentally when a transgender parent is constantly misgendered, or otherwise has their relationship to their child misrepresented in the courts by legal counsel, because of their gender identity and expression.

That being said, we hope that anybody who needed this reminder is able to take a second to validate themselves, and understand that if you have representation that does not understand, accurately represent, or fiercely advocate for the relationship you have with your child - YOU DESERVE BETTER.

Coparenting in general can be difficult, but especially during transitionary periods in your child's life, where schedules can change as fast as they're agreed upon. Having a formal parenting agreement can, among other things, give you a mutually agreed upon process by which to go about communicating and/or implementing these changes as they come up in real-time, and give you the peace of mind to approach back to school as a coparent with clarity, confidence, and no need for a midday floor nap (unless you want one).

Today is Southern HIV/Aids Awareness day. Founded by the Southern AIDS coalition, and observed every year on August 20th, today is a day that we call attention to the number of people living with HIV/AIDS in the American South. All throughout the South, organizations, communities, and individuals use SHAAD as a way to provide education, testing, and other HIV-related care resources to members in their community.

In order to see what events are happening in your community, check out the tag on social media. For information and resources about HIV/AIDS, any day of the year, visit hiv.gov.

As q***r folk in the south, it's important to look out for one another, and make sure that the conversation about the prevalence of HIV/AIDS, and reduce the stigma around prevention, education and treatment. 🌈

If the thought of navigating the U.S. legal system feels the same way navigating an unknown jungle does to your nervous system, you aren't alone.

If you're stumbling across my page, you're likely q***r, or apart of a non-traditional family structure. As unfortunate as it is, the definitions that guide legal decision making were not made with you in mind.

As a q***r attorney, and someone who has a non-traditional family, I personally understand the frustration and confusion that this can bring. This understanding leads me to have a deep appreciation for each individual brave enough to not only navigate this system, but to see that they need help, AND see themselves as deserving of it.
