Ever look at a piece of mountain land and think, “I love it… but where would I even start?” 🌿🏡

Sometimes it helps to picture the front porch.

For this 22-acre North Carolina property, I created a conceptual rendering of a cozy two-story cottage on one small clearing—windows positioned toward the good view, warm wood accents, and a welcoming porch. A little side yard could offer space for a garden or a quiet place to sit, and look at the other view.

The property already has a tiny home, with other areas to explore as potential homesites. This cottage is one imagined possibility.

But how do you go from land you love to a home you can build?

One of my favorite parts of living in Western North Carolina is getting to share it with the people I love. 💚

My 80-year-old aunt and two of my cousins recently came to visit, so I wanted to plan a week that everyone could enjoy—without every experience requiring a long hike or strenuous trail.

Our Western North Carolina family itinerary included:

🏔 Scenic drives and overlooks along the Blue Ridge Parkway
💦 A full day of roadside waterfalls
🏰 Touring the Biltmore

🌿 Wandering through downtown Brevard
🐈 A visit to a cat café

Western North Carolina may be known for hiking and outdoor adventure, but you don’t have to hike for miles to experience what makes this area so special.

There are mountain views from the car, waterfalls near the road, walkable downtowns, local art, history and experiences that can be adapted for different ages and mobility levels.

And honestly, one of the best parts of living here is becoming the place your family wants to visit. 💚
