In 1978 he formed his own law firm and he has continued to provide both transactional and litigation legal services to businesses and their owners through various iterations of firm size. While the emphasis of the practice has and continues to be the representation of business entities in all areas of concern including formation, acquisitions, mergers, dispositions, contracts, vendor/vendee relati
ons, banking and financial relationships, employer/employee relationships, landlord/tenant relationships, and real estate, and the representation of clients in litigation within all of those subject areas, the firm has expanded it's representation of individuals as well over the last decade. In particular, the firm provides legal representation in the areas of wills, estate planning, and probate as a component of business law rather than as a component of family law. This representation includes estate and probate litigation involving will contests and breach of fiduciary duty litigation. Paxton continues to received an "A-V" rating in the Martindale-Hubbell legal directory, the highest rating possible for competency and ethics, based upon the survey results from attorneys in the local legal community. Paxton was recognized by Fort Worth Magazine as one of the "Top Attorneys" in the area of acquisitions and mergers in a widely distributed survey. The firm's clients include business entities of all types ranging from retail to manufacturing to service providers to professional services and which are owned by one or multiple individuals. The firm's clients may conduct their business in one geographic locale of the State of Texas or across state lines. Proximity to Arlington, Texas is no longer a primary determining factor in the firm's ability to provide high quality legal services and the firm has the technology and know-how to communicate with it's clients regardless of their physical location. Both knowledge and experience are necessary in order to provide quality legal services but they are not enough. Paxton believes that frank and specific communication are also important factors and that an appreciation of the business person's perspective is necessary to appropriate tailor the advice on the legal issues.
