On Sunday, May 30, 2021 we learned of the passing of the combat-disabled veteran and DAV (Disabled American Veterans) past national commander, Jim (James) Sursely, who resided in Apopka, FL.

Jim enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1966 and volunteered to serve in Vietnam. It was during the Vietnam War in January of 1969, during a combat mission, that an enemy land mine exploded during a perimeter check. This resulted in him having both his legs above the knee and his left arm above his elbow amputated.

Jim then joined DAV (Disabled American Veterans) in 1970. During his time with DAV, he connected with younger veterans returning with combat injuries and mentored them. He taught how to accept the events of the past while remembering to not allow limitations to stop you from anything.

We want to offer our condolences to his family, including his wife Jeannie. He served our veterans and community and we want to honor his service. He was also a father, business owner, advocate for veterans, and a national commander of DAV.

The City of Apopka will be flying the flag at half-staff from June 3, 2021 through June 6, 2021 in remembrance and honor of his life and service for our country.

With mortgage interest rates hitting record lows so many times recently, some are wondering if we’ll see low rates continue throughout 2021, or if they’ll start to rise.
