Resources & Support for Attorneys Affected by the Empire Towers Collapse
The recent Empire Towers garage collapse has disrupted the practices and livelihoods of many of our colleagues. Following discussion and planning with President Susan Shapiro, we have enacted a 3-part plan to marshal resources and support fellow members affected by this business crisis. The AABA has always been more than a professional organization. We are a community that supports one another when it matters most. Below is a summary of the steps the AABA has taken to support affected attorneys.
1. Created an Empire Towers Attorney Resource Hub Google doc to serve as a resource for those affected to share resources and exchange updates, including the following: AA County Empire Towers Structural Integrity Incident: Information & Updates https://www.aacounty.org/empiretowers & Anne Arundel County Economic Development Empire Towers Disaster Recovery Grant: https://aaedc.submittable.com/submit/32094d16-d9e4-494a-9ca0-30a2618bcc36/empire-towers-disaster-recovery-grant
2. Created an AABA Empire Towers Attorney Support Network Google form for both members in need of assistance and members willing to help, which will generate a live sheet for all showing who needs what and who is offering what, and streamline communications. Our goal is to make it as easy as possible to match needs with available resources in real time. See the form here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdF2x4sQa6QRhoCes6UFmek4Y28CvyLLInZ_L7jkBJ-ck1Hbg/viewform
Whether you need assistance, can offer support, or both, we invite you to complete this form. Together, we can connect members with the resources they need and demonstrate the strength of the Anne Arundel legal community.
3. Sent a request to Chief Justice Fader and Chief Judge Morrissey, respectfully requesting that information about this business crisis be shared with judges throughout the State of Maryland so they are aware that attorneys with offices in the Empire Towers may encounter unexpected scheduling conflicts, delays, or the need to request continuances while access to the building remains restricted.
Thank you for demonstrating the generosity and collegiality that define the Anne Arundel legal community.
