🌱⚖️ From Iowa to Everywhere: Investing in the Next Generation of Trust & Estate Lawyers

A decade-long partnership between Drake University Law School and the ISBA Probate, Trust & Estate Planning Section is transforming what it means to enter the trusts and estates field — and helping build the pipeline Iowa urgently needs.

Through this innovative program, Drake Law students serve as section secretaries, gaining firsthand exposure to real issues, real practitioners, and real opportunities long before graduation. Many former student secretaries are now active Probate Section leaders in their own right.

The article highlights:
• How the partnership gives students a front-row seat to the practice of trusts & estates
• Why early mentorship, networking & exposure are key to retention
• How section meetings held at law schools engage students directly
• Insights from panelists on the career rewards and high demand in this field
• Why Iowa’s model could be replicated nationwide

This is more than professional development — it’s a blueprint for strengthening the bench of future Iowa lawyers.
