We are proud to have placed a question on the Massachusetts ballot that would require dental insurance companies to spend 83% of their revenues on patient care. Insurance companies hate the idea, but this week the state's highest court gave us the green light.
Dental insurance pays too little of patient costs, so even those with insurance are stuck paying half the bill--which can be thousands of dollars for common procedures. REquireing insurance companies to put more money into care will be a better deal for patients.
The ACA and Mass. law already have similar limits on medical insurance companies, but dental insurance was not included. Given what we know about the importance of dental health, it's time to hold dental plans to the same standard.
