Our team achieved a huge victory today for a client of ours that is a service member. Our client is an outstanding member of the Coast Guard for over 10 years. A few months ago, our client was arrested for suspected DUI on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richrdson while there on medical leave. Unfortunately, even though there were many extenuating circumstances, and a lack of command support that got him to that place, the Coast Guard still moved forward to initiate separation proceedings against him.

As a result of attorney Alexis Howell’s excellent advocacy, with the support from paralegals Natasha Delon and Alicia Braunschweig, our team was able to show the separation board that our client’s service was more than this one incident. Rather, this issue was a “one-off” from an otherwise outstanding member of the community and fantastic service member.

Ultimately the separation board found and recommended that (1) there was no legal basis to separate the client from military service; (2) that the client should be retained in service; that should the convening authority decide to separate the client, he should receive an Honorable Characterization of Service; and that should the convening authority decide separation is appropriate, that separation should be converted to probation.

Today’s result is a direct reflection of the hard work that our client has accomplished. He accepted responsibility for his actions and demonstrated that he is capable of being rehabilitated. Moreover, should he leave military service, his honorable service will be characterized as such. Our team is very happy for our client, and we wish our client the best of luck in the remainder of his military career!

It is always great to end the work week by highlighting client wins. This week we are highlighting the outstanding result that attorney Alexis Howell and paralegal Natasha DeLeon achieved for our client. Our client was terminated “for cause” by his employer. Alexis carefully reviewed the facts of the case and determined that our client’s employment termination violated Alaska law. After starting the litigation process, our team was able to obtain a $100,000 settlement for our client, which is twice the original offer.

Carlson Law Group, LLC is excited to announce that three new team members have recently joined the firm. We are lucky to be able to work with such skilled legal professionals, and our clients will benefit from their proven record of success.

Alexius Kadrmas joined our team as a paralegal after serving 20 years in the United States Air Force. During her first ten years of service, Alexius served as a firefighter. During her last ten years of service, Alexius served as a paralegal. As a paralegal, Alexius assisted in the litigation of nearly 200 courts-martial, nonjudicial punishments, and administrative discharges. Her knowledge of the Uniform Code of Military Justice is unparalleled, and she will add tremendous value to our team. Alexius also has a bachelor’s degree in legal studies.

Erica Lee joined our team as a paralegal after working in the private sector as a paralegal since 2016. Erica has a bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies where she graduated with honors. Since graduating, Erica has worked collaboratively on all aspects of civil litigation matters. Erica is also a military spouse, and she is excited to join our team of Veterans to continue to provide legal solutions for our clients involved in various litigation matters.

Alexis Howell is joining our team on May 15, 2023, as a litigation attorney. Her practice will focus on providing legal solutions to clients in Fairbanks, Alaska. Alexis is transitioning from the United States Army JAG Corps where she most recently served as a Trial Defense Service attorney. Alexis has achieved exceptional results for her clients as a defense attorney in the Army. Her litigation experience will be invaluable to the firm’s clients.
