Last night we had the privilege of attending a beautiful dinner at the for a dinner presented by featuring Frank Kos and a surprise dish by . Flower pairings were provided courtesy of and dab bar courtesy of and snacks too. Swipe to see the amazing dishes we experienced. One of the most unique things about this experience was the diversity of the attendees. Some industry participants, others not. We had a woman from Florida and a mom and daughter duo from New York in attendance with us. We cannot wait for Canna Tourism like this to really take off in California. We think sharing cannabis with friends in a private residence does not warrant governmental intrusion, especially when the cannabis is tested and legally obtained. Make sure to let your representatives know that requiring a caterer license for these private events, as proposed in AB2188, is ridiculous and only serves to hinder or industry.
See you tomorrow night at in Tickets are $10 online (link in stories) or $20 at the door.
Our office is closed today in humble observance of Juneteenth. Please take some time to reflect on what freedom means, because none of us is free, until we are all free. If you’re not sure how to support the Black community, buy from Black owned businesses and brands, educate your children about the wonderful achievements of Black people, do not shy away from the wretched history of slavery and it’s continuation today through unequal pay, lack of equal opportunities in business, lending and homeownership and the mass, disproportionate incarceration of Black individuals today. In the cannabis industry we can support Black owned brands and find ways to elevate Black voices. Below are comments from Hon. Marqueece Harris-Dawson, reflecting on the meaning of and the continued plight of Black people in many parts of our country, particularly in Texas, as we take pause and reflect today:
Juneteenth and the fall of slavery is a reminder of what we can accomplish when we struggle. When we don't accept the status quo. When we don't accept things that are obviously wrong and seem like they will never change.
You can imagine generations of folks lived in slavery with the idea that one day we will overcome this. Juneteenth is a marker for that.
I am struck by the irony of where we are today. Just today, as we are discussing Juneteenth, a man stood twenty feet from me holding the battle-flag of the confederate army. The most deadly struggle in the history of the United States. We have not had a war where more people died than in the Civil War.
I'm reminded of the history of Juneteenth. The sanitized version says it took the army some time to get to Texas to let people know they are free. In fact, the actual history is that the White House sent not one but two emissaries to the state to give them the documentation. Those people were killed before they got there. That's why the Federal Government had to send 2,000 soldiers to notify Texans. And then you open up the paper, and you see some of the things happening in Texas today.

The Cannabis Science Conference was lovely. It was great to spend the day promoting and meeting so many brilliant minds from the science side.
Story Time (Dana here, so this is in first person): in 2018, hosted an event to bring attention to equitable practices within the cannabis industry. The event was also benefitting Ms. Shirley Raines, who at the time was feeding the homeless on skid row with food she prepared in her own kitchen, using her own money. She also was helping the homeless with hygiene needs. I was really impressed by her sprit of service and generosity. She told me she was working on getting a shower so she could help bathe the homeless better and in a more private setting. I made my donations using her Amazon list (link in bio) and started following her. I told her at this event that she needed to form a 501(c)(3) organization so she could accept larger donations from corporations. If you know me, I have a lot of bright ideas about ways the cannabis community can give back and break the stigma - this was one of them. In 2019, Shirley and I worked together to attain 501(c)(3) status for Beauty 2 the Streetz. Since that time the world sure has become crazy! When Covid 19 hit, Shirley took to the streets, ensuring masks and hand sanitizers were available to the homeless; she helped track their testing and vaccination schedules, and most importantly, she continued to feed the homeless. Others started to take note of Shirley’s big heart and Beauty 2 the Streetz. Too many to name that have supported the organization. and named Beauty 2 the Streetz founder Shirley Raines the hero of the year and made a massive donation. did an awesome collaboration that lead to one of the individuals Shirley loved most, Q, find her family (they really found her). helped purchase a sprinter van to get the donated items from the storage unit down to Skid Row because Shirley’s car wasn’t cutting it anymore. My own CPA stepped in to help with the accounting. And now, after only 3 short years, an amazing donor has stepped up and is paying for a brand new food truck! If you want to donate or be involved with this amazing organization, please click the link in their bio.
We had such a blast with by and hanging with the team of as well as some of our favorite clients from and It was extra special that we got to bring the kids (Dana’s son and his friend) to see what the cannabis community really is all about. Thanks to for the Canna Mom AF sweatshirt that was absolutely perfect for this event! When cannabis is normalized for moms, then it will be normalized for society. It is so important to integrate into the community, rather than just throwing donation dollars out there for good looks. One group of people on the beach thanked us for our efforts - they were pretty surprised when we told them we are a group of cannabis colleagues who care greatly for the environment. This is exactly the way we go about breaking the stigma! Next month will be at Venice Beach (how fun!). Reach out to if you are interested in participating or sponsoring.
Last night the released form 4013, which applicants can use to request review of their “project” under the California Environmental Quality Act aka CEQA. Unless you have been living under a rock, you know this is the bane of the cannabis industry’s existence. Most indoor activities will easily qualify for an exemption, but a thorough and detailed project description is required; even more so for cultivators. We have been filing these petitions at the state level for all of our cannabis clients for the past 3 years. Please do not feel like you need to pay a consultant tens of thousands of dollars to complete this process. Our firm typically spends 2-5 hours per petition. We expect the DCR or the LACBA will be hosting some kind of workshop to help applicants complete the process. The form can be filed as early as June 1, 2022. If you would like our assistance in preparing this form and helping you obtain your provisional or annual license, please click the Book Now link above to schedule a quick CEQA consultation.

The DCC is set to release revised regulations March 4, 2022. These will be under consideration to replace the emergency regulations and subsequently adopted additional regulations. If you are angry about the way things are going in the cannabis industry, you need to participate in this rule making process. The more specific examples the State receives of where the regulations go too far, the better. For example, are you fed up with the restrictions on advertising for cannabis companies? We see beer and wine commercials and advertisements dozens of times a day, but cannabis remains largely out of site. Should the DCC be held to some processing time frames? Anyone else think it is unfair that our operators are forced to wait for 6 months to a year for a license when all documents are submitted? Anyone else troubled by the DCC recently slowing down the issuance of provisional licenses? Our industry is gasping for air and someone needs to tell the state to take its foot off our necks! That means each of us needs to write in and let them know what is wrong, but more importantly, how to fix the issues we see with over regulation. Tune in to listen to the DCC talk about the proposed regulations, the rulemaking process, timelines and how to participate through public comments. Huntington Beach is holding a study session tomorrow at 4pm! Attend in person at City Hall or log in via zoom (https://tinyurl.com/HB21522) to participate in the meeting. We need to show up and make sure that the oligopolistic market being created that benefits a select few in the merit-based process does not continue to the exclusion of legacy operators and brands, startups and most importantly, those most impacted by the failed war on drugs. What we need is greater access, greater variety and lower taxes. To change the system, we all need to participate. Otherwise, those with the resources will continue to define what cannabis looks like in California.

The ballot measure filed for the City of Lake Forest would allow for one retail license per 13,000 people – so about 15 licenses in all! The City is proposing a 3% tax on cannabis sales, making it one of the most competitive tax rates around for retail sales, and certainly lower than the 6% in Costa Mesa or the 8% in Santa Ana. If you would like more information on the City of Lake Forest Initiative Measure or need help in applying for your license, please contact The Cannabis Corporate Law Firm today to schedule your consultation and to ensure you are making the soundest decisions for your legal cannabis company.

Fun times at the Orange County Cannabis Awards. We were honored to be nominated and to have a chance to speak. Congrats to just some of our favorites and
The City of Dana Point recently surveyed the community on a host of issues, including cannabis activities. Please email any comments to [email protected] or attend the meeting February 1, 2022 in Council Chambers. Make sure they understand we need more access and less tax on our commercial cannabis operators. This is just the beginning of the discussion, so time still remains to make sure your voice is heard.
