The move Secretariat put on around the first turn, exploding from the back of the pack to the front in 15 seconds, was one of the freakiest things he did.
Many observers, including Secretariat’s trainer, Lucien Laurin, thought jockey Ron Turcotte had moved too soon and might pay for his impatience. Hall of Fame jockey Laffit Pincay Jr. loved what he saw from atop Secretariat’s chief rival, Sham, figuring Secretariat would be a sitting duck by the stretch run.
β€œWell, you saw what happened,” Pincay said recently, reflecting on the duel.
Turcotte did not like the slow early pace set by Ecole Etage, so with the slightest movement of his hands – he equated it to pulling a shirt collar straight – he asked the rocket ship he was aboard to launch. Once Secretariat fired, no horse, not even a game Sham, had the juice to catch up.

Eddie Sweat once told a reporter, "I guess a groom gets closer to a horse than anyone. The owner, the trainer, they maybe see him once a day. But I lived with him worked with him."
While the world was elated with the 9th Triple Crown winner--Secretariat, it was a very sad day for Eddie and Secretariat...it was the day he boarded the plane to Kentucky to start his stud career at Claiborne Farm.
Eddie flew with Secretariat for the last time, shown here, Secretariat nibbles his sleeve and Eddie reassures Secretariat. Charlie Davis also has to be mentioned, as he was exercise rider and so close to Secretariat too!

American actor and singer Roy Rogers (1911 - 1998) sits in the saddle of a rearing horse with one of his daughters holding on to his stomach, as his older daughter rides a horse being led by his wife, American actor and singer Dale Evans (1912 - 2001)

Roy Rogers appeared in almost 90 motion pictures, as well as numerous episodes of his self-titled radio program that lasted for nine years. Between 1951 and 1957, he hosted The Roy Rogers Show television series. In many of them, he appeared with his wife, Dale Evans; his Golden Palomino, Trigger; and his German Shepherd, Bullet. Rogers is also best remembered for his signature song ""Happy Trails"".
