Do these 5 things if you’re being arrested:

1. Breathe
2. Keep your hands visible
3. Ask for a lawyer
4. Stop talking about the case
5. Notice badge names, witnesses, and injuries

Panic writes awful scripts. Silence leaves the government with less to work with. Our free guide covers the first steps that help your defense instead of helping the report.

Civil forfeiture is one of the government’s favorite tricks: take property first, then make you fight to get it back. The case can be civil on paper while feeling plenty punitive in real life. Miss a deadline, and the state smiles while it keeps what it grabbed. Our newsletter tracks criminal defense and civil-rights issues like this in plain English, without the institutional spin.

Pride Month is a good time to celebrate people who chose honesty over hiding and community over fear. Joy belongs here. So does grit. Thank the ones who carved out room when the world offered none, and check on the ones still paying a price for being themselves. Live loud, love your people, and make space for others to do the same.

“Great place and great people. They actually care about your problems and want to help solve them” - T. C.

A case file may look tidy on a desk. It does not land that way in a person’s life. Reviews put one thing on the record that docket sheets never will: whether people were heard, prepared, and treated like human beings instead of paperwork.

DO:

- State your name
- Stay calm
- Ask for a lawyer

DON’T:

- Explain your innocence on the curb
- Agree to a “quick look” through your stuff
- Treat silence like guilt

Police are trained to gather evidence. Panic loves to donate extra. Our free resource lays out what to do while being arrested so one bad hour doesn't become the whole case.

Before you hit record, ask one question: is this a private space?

In Texas, secret recording in a bathroom, bedroom, dressing room, or another place with a real expectation of privacy can bring brutal fallout. HB 1465 expanded the law and tied invasive visual recording to sex-offender registration for qualifying convictions or adjudications starting September 1, 2025. Content is not a defense.

It’s been a busy month with deadlines and end of school stuff so we are just getting around to posting. We had a great time at the Annual NAACP scholarship banquet. Thanks Amarillo Branch NAACP for all you do for the local community!

When a kid gets pulled into the juvenile system, parents often hear two bad myths at once: “It’s no big deal” and “Their life is over.” Both are lazy.

Juvenile cases run under their own rules, and the fallout can still reach school, jobs, and financial aid later. Our newsletter gives families plain-English updates before rumor and panic take the wheel.
