A recorded statement can sound harmless until the prosecutor circles one sentence and pretends it tells the whole story. Before talking through a charge, look at the report, the timeline, the bond terms, and what the State claims it can prove. For case-specific questions, call Ryan Brown Attorney at Law at (806) 372-5711.

The State loves a clean little timeline: stop, search, arrest, bond, next court date. Actual cases can have gaps: wrong times, missing footage, unclear consent, “plain smell” claims, and reports written like everyone agreed.

Your apps may look private, but a good rule of thumb is remember that when a service claims to be free, YOU and your data are the product.

AI chats, Cash App notes, DMs, search history, location tags, and deleted threads can all become part of a subpoena fight. Prosecutors may use those pieces to argue intent, planning, or consciousness of guilt. The phone in your hand may be Exhibit A with or without a passcode.

Trying to contact the alleged victim or witnesses on your own is how people turn one fire into three. A text that looks innocent to you can get painted as pressure, harassment, or witness tampering. In some cases, bond conditions or protective orders make contact its own fresh problem. Let counsel handle the outreach and keep your fingerprints off the mess.

Myth: “If I explain everything, police will see I did nothing wrong.”

Fact: talking often gives them extra lines to quote, compare, twist, and file away.

Better move:

- Stay calm
- Ask for a lawyer
- Keep quiet

Our arrest guide was built for the first bad hour, when people don't know their rights and the state takes notes.

That little Class C ticket the state sold as “no big deal” can keep charging rent in your life. Public intoxication and other low-level cases may sit on your record far longer than people expect. One ugly side effect we flagged: getting turned away from firearm-based self-defense training because of that old mark.

Cheap fine. Expensive aftertaste.

A conviction is not always the last word. Appeals and writs exist because courts get things wrong, records get mishandled, and rights get trampled with great confidence. An appeal attacks legal error. A writ can raise issues like bad lawyering, prosecutorial misconduct, or new evidence. Our newsletter shares these post-conviction issues in plain English to help our community.

“The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion.” - Albert Camus

In an unfree world, rebellion doesn't have to come from chaos: refusing humiliation, refusing lies, refusing the script handed to you by people who profit from obedience. Freedom doesn't wait for a stage and a speech. It shows up the moment a person decides their soul is not up for lease.

Not every assault allegation starts with a villain. Some start with a breakup, a family blowup, a mutual fight, or one witness statement that the police decide to treat like gospel.

By the time officers arrive, the loudest version often wins round one. That doesn't make it true. Early witness interviews, photos, and timeline work can rewrite the story before it hardens into a charge. A prompt review with a professional helps preserve that proof.

Do these 5 things if you’re being arrested:

1. Breathe
2. Keep your hands visible
3. Ask for a lawyer
4. Stop talking about the case
5. Notice badge names, witnesses, and injuries

Panic writes awful scripts. Silence leaves the government with less to work with. Our free guide covers the first steps that help your defense instead of helping the report.
