🍂 Why September Might Be the Best Month to Explore North Georgia

I think that September has a way of showing off North Georgia at its best.
The summer heat begins to ease, the mountain air feels a little crisper, and the roads are still peaceful before peak fall color brings in the larger crowds.
It’s a wonderful time to spend the day exploring places like Dahlonega, Ellijay, Cleveland, Blue Ridge, Clarkesville, and Dawsonville.

You can wander a historic downtown, enjoy lunch at a locally owned restaurant, visit a winery, take a scenic drive through the mountains, or simply sit outside and enjoy the cooler weather.

And if you’ve been thinking about moving to North Georgia, September is also a great time to experience what everyday life here can actually feel like — not just the tourist version.

I believe that the best way to decide where you want to live is simply to spend a little time there. When I moved to Dahlonega, I spent time just riding around and getting a feel for Lumpkin County, and I just fell in love with the mountains, farms, and the people. I think you will TOO!

BRING THE PETS

When we moved to North Georgia, we didn’t just pack boxes —
we packed the dogs , the horses , one very opinionated cat , and eventually… 25+ chickens

As a young girl, I was mesmerized by horses .

My grandfather raised thoroughbreds, and I dreamed of having my own.
First came my pony Glass Eye, then Dolly — and somewhere along the way, that dream stayed with me

Fast forward about 25 years…
and that lifelong love of animals and open land led me to Dahlonega, Georgia —
where I finally got to live the dream Life in the North Georgia mountains.

❤️ Why do I still love helping people buy homes after 35+ years?
Because it has never really been about the houses.

It's about the people. Who, by the way, many times become “friends”!
I've watched first-time buyers get the keys to their very first home. I've helped families find more room to grow, empty nesters begin a new chapter, and buyers finally make that long-dreamed-about move to the North Georgia mountains. 🏡🏔️
And after all these years, I still get excited when someone walks into a house, looks around, and I can see it on their face...
This is the one.

Funny thing is, I just said that to a new client last week... you will know it when you FEEL it!

It is TRUE: Real estate has changed tremendously in 35+ years.
But that feeling hasn't.

Helping someone find a place where they'll build a life, make memories, and truly feel at home is still one of the best parts of what I do. ❤️ After all..home is where the heart is will ALWAYS be true as far as I am concerned.

🌻 Before I tell you about sunflowers, I want to share with you a quick “tractor” story. I always admired John Deere tractors. I loved the green colors, and it was the most popular tractor in Texas when I was growing up.

That said, the first thing I bought when I moved to Dahlonega was a John Deere tractor. Yep! And because I bought it, I had to use it, and I bushogged the pastures all summer long! I still have it. I still love it. And when the grass gets too tall down by the barn, you will find me on it.

And now back to “SUNFLOWERS!” Sunflower season has officially arrived in North Georgia... and it's one of my favorite times of the year! And..you already know I love flowers!

One of the best places to experience it is Fausett Farms Sunflowers, a family-owned farm that's been part of North Georgia since 1858.

Located just south of Burt's Pumpkin Farm and Amicalola Falls, the farm features more than 13 acres of beautiful sunflowers—making it the perfect place for photos, a relaxing afternoon, or simply soaking in the beauty of the mountains.

What I love most is the story behind it. After 60 years in the poultry business, the family transformed the farm into a place where visitors can enjoy the simple beauty of North Georgia. If you're a horseback rider, you can even bring your own horse and explore miles of scenic trails. 🐴🌻

It's places like this that remind me why I love living here. North Georgia isn't just about beautiful scenery—it's about family traditions, wide-open spaces, and creating memories that last a lifetime.
