This didn’t start with a business plan. It started with me being nosy. 😂

Around 2015/2016, I kept noticing all these buildings around Albany with red X’s on them.

And I had questions.

What do the X’s mean?
Who owns these buildings?
Why are so many of them sitting vacant?
And what happens to them next?

So I started doing my own research.

Not long after that, I applied to LISC AmeriCorps and was placed at the Albany County Land Bank.

And THAT is where things really started clicking for me.

I met people who wanted to buy property.

People trying to leverage their tax returns to create an opportunity for themselves.

People who saw a two-family or three-family and thought, “My family could live here together.”

People who wanted to invest in the same neighborhoods they came from.

The desire was there.

The opportunity was there.

But I also started seeing how easy it was for people to get left out of the process simply because they didn’t have the right information, guidance, or somebody to help them connect the dots.

And I kept thinking...

Why should not knowing where to start be the reason somebody misses an opportunity to own?

That question stayed with me.

And eventually, it became Building Blocks Together.

BBT was born from the idea that regular people should be able to understand real estate, ownership, and investing—and actually know what to DO with that information.

Years later, we’re still doing exactly that.

Teaching. Connecting the dots. Creating opportunities. Reimagining vacant spaces. And helping people see that ownership may be closer than they think.

So when you see me standing on these lots talking about Lots to Legacy, understand...

This is full circle for me.

I started by wondering what was happening with vacant properties in Albany.

Now I’m working to help our community understand how we can own them, develop them, live in them, invest in them, and build something that lasts.

That’s the story behind BBT. 💙💚

And we’re still building.
