rm offers counsel in the following practice areas: insurance matters, real estate transactions, personal injury, matrimonial and family law, criminal defense, business and corporate matters, and more. Prior to forming Smith Dominelli & Guetti, or “SDG”, partners Jay, Jennifer & Christopher realized that they shared common values, with the goal of delivering the best possible results to their clients during their many years working together as a team. Jay’s Story:

In the late 1990s, after almost 10 years of practice with an old line Capital District firm and a house counsel operation, Jay decided it was time to open his own firm. Jay was distinguished by an understanding of and contacts in the Insurance Industry and had learned how to litigate from the best. He also knew that the primary goal of all clients is the resolution, not the continuation, of their case. From January 2000 through May 2017, Jay Smith was a founding member and partner at Flink Smith Law, in a practice that focused on insurance defense litigation and transactional real estate, as well as the general practice of law. Jennifer’s Story:

Jennifer brings a solid foundation to the practice, having litigated cases for nearly 20 years, ranging from complex personal injury to contested matrimonial and family law matters. Jennifer has built a matrimonial practice designed to serve the needs of clients with unparalleled expertise in the law and compassionate guidance through difficult situations. Jennifer was a partner in Flink Smith, having joined as the firm’s law clerk in 1996, continuing as an associate in 1998 and being named partner in 2006. Jennifer served as the managing partner of Flink Smith through the time of its dissolution in 2017. Christopher’s Story:

Christopher has also been litigating cases for almost 20 years, having worked for another capital district law firm for several years before joining Jay and Jennifer as an associate in 2005. Having worked in smaller practice, he had litigated successfully in a wide variety of matters at both the trial and appellate levels, and practiced not only in the area of personal injury, but in matrimonial and family law as well. After joining Flink Smith, Chris continued to provide excellent service to the firm’s clients in litigation throughout the State. He also joined with Jennifer in the development and service of the firm’s matrimonial and family law practice. Christopher has been a resolute believer in thinking outside the box in providing his clients options, whether they decide to litigate or resolve their matter. All three have capitalized on their similar training, high ethical standards and dedication to their clients in building a diverse and successful practice, which serves the needs of many individuals and businesses. In 2017, they decided to partner together to continue the excellence that they had developed over the years and to ensure the delivery of exceptional client service. This philosophy carries through with SGD not only in the litigation and transactional fields, but as Jennifer and Chris guide the matrimonial practice, where they are both certified as mediators and distinguished as collaborative practitioners. In addition to the partners, Paul Campito practices at SDG on an “of counsel” basis with the firm. McBride adds to a well-rounded team. The varied experience and talents, coupled with the shared values of the partners and attorneys, have solidified a powerful and productive team equipped to serve a variety of diverse needs. The attorneys at SDG have built their practice entirely on referrals from clients, other attorneys, and by word of mouth. By careful selection of client relationships, SDG provides the highest quality of representation to their clients. For more information, please contact us at 518-250-4888.

Having issues with co-parenting during the Coronavirus Pandemic? Christopher Guetti provides guidance on how you should navigate through this difficult time:

By Christopher Guetti, Esq. As the fallout from the impacts from coronavirus continues to unfold, the New York State Court System has also had to take drastic measures in an effort to stem the tide of potential infections.  In fact, presently, all of the different courts in New York State,

Dear Clients, Partners and Friends,
The current situation and unprecedented changes appear to be happening each hour, each day. We wanted to let all of our clients and partners know that we will remain available throughout this changing situation with COVID-19, or coronavirus.
Even before COVID-19 concerns arose, SDG has been, and remains, prepared to deal with legal issues in light of the various restrictions that may be placed on law firms over time. Both attorneys and staff have the capability of operating remotely with secure access to files and office voicemails.
Additionally, we are moving to keep all direct contact between our clients and office to a minimum, and would ask all clients, to the extent they would like to make contact, to do so by email, telephone or fax.
With everything changing so rapidly, we also want to provide everyone with some information as to how the practice of law is being affected, and the courts in particular. The New York State Court System has already modified its guidance twice. The first on March 13, 2020, superseded by updated protocols that were issued on March 15, 2020. A link to that specific guidance can be found here:
https://www.nycourts.gov/whatsnew/pdf/Updated-Protocol-AttachmentA3.pdf
According to the March 15, 2020 memorandum, the court system went from seeking to reduce courthouse traffic, to beginning March 16, 2020, postponing all nonessential functions of the courts until further notice. In addition to only engaging in essential functions, multiple courts (Supreme, Family, Surrogates, etc.) within a given jurisdiction are being condensed into a specific designated location for emergency proceedings. Essential functions are also specifically defined within the memorandum, and do not include conferences or basic motion practice.
As a result of these changes, we have already been contacted by several courts about conferences being adjourned without date.
To the extent you wish to obtain any additional information about coronavirus in the New York State courts, we suggest you go to the following website:
https://www.nycourts.gov/whatsnew/covid.shtml
We thank you for your continued confidence in allowing us to assist you with your various legal matters.
New York State Executive Orders
As with the court system, New York State has also been impacting daily life and certain practices, through executive order, as the crisis intensifies. For review of those specific orders, please see this website:
https://www.governor.ny.gov/executive-orders
Executive Order 202.1 directly impacts all businesses in New York State. It indicates that "Any place of business or public accommodation, and any gathering or event for which attendance is anticipated to be fewer than 500 people, shall operate at no greater than 50% occupancy, and no greater than 50% of seating capacity, for 30 days effective March 13, 2020..."
CDC Guidelines
Finally, please take the opportunity to review Cheney federal guidelines on dealing with coronavirus, At the link below:
