Students with special educational needs, especially students on IEPs, are not well served by remote learning, to put it mildly. As an education lawyer/advocate and as a parent, this has become especially clear this fall, as Akron Public Schools has moved to a remote-only learning model.
Channel 5/WEWS has done a a great job covering this story, including our personal effort and the big picture. Let's keep pushing the APS Board of Education to address this critical need, and put a hybrid model in place for our most vulnerable students.
Remote learning can be challenging for many students, but for families of students with disabilities, those challenges may be even more acute.
