"Last week my wife and I were in a horrible auto accident. An uninsured driver ran a red light 🚦 while we were turning left on a green arrow. Our car was totaled and we sustained injuries which we're still dealing with today.

The first thing we did was call our Provider Law Firm with the legal protection app.📱

The lawyer who called us back an hour later gave us advice on how to handle the insurance company, the dealership, and the rental car company. ☎️

He told us the insurance company would low ball us on the value of our 3-year old car, and they did -- they offered $12K, but after I told them my lawyer told me to ask for comparisons to show value, the next minute they upped the payoff to 💲15K. Wow!!

Next, we found a car at a dealership. The dealer tried charge us $2K for an 'appearance package'. HUH? Since our lawyer warned us about this, too, we balked and they relented. 🚗

When given the purchase agreement, we told the finance officer we wanted our law firm to review the contracts first before we signed. Interestingly, she dashed out and 15 minutes later came back with new contracts which she faxed to our law firm at 4:42pm. 📄

A lawyer called us back within five minutes and told us he'd review them in the morning.

The next day, a lawyer called us and went over the agreement, page by page. We decided to sign.

"I tried to trade in my car, but the dealership only wanted to give me $2,000 when I thought it should have been worth at least $9,000 ...then, the dealership told me my car had frame damage! I told them that was impossible, because I was never in an accident the entire time I owned the car, and I bought it with a clean CarFax. Or so I thought. Apparently, the original place I bought it from knew it was in an accident, but never disclosed it to me!! So, I called my Legalshield Provider Firm and the attorney who called me back listened to my situation then decided to write a demand letter on my behalf to that original dealership stating the laws and my legal rights. “Two weeks after I signed up for LegalShield, I had a massive pain in my stomach and went to the hospital. I was told I'd need surgery, and was approved by my insurance to stay for 3-nights at the hospital for post-surgery care. However, during the surgery, the doctor found my situation was more complicated than they thought and I ended up staying 10 days in the hospital instead. A few weeks after I got home, I received a bill from the hospital for $60,000.00! I called the hospital to inquire about the bill and was told I was only approved to stay 3 days - not 10 - and I would need to pay the $60,000.00! I didn't argue with the hospital ... I guess I was kind of in shock! I just hung up and called my Provider Law Firm. Two days later, I received a call from the hospital notifying me they'd heard from 'my attorney'. This time, they spoke to me with respect, called me 'Mr.' and THANKED me for using their hospital to perform the surgery, blah blah blah and ... all I really paid attention to is when they said the $60,000 bill was cleared, just like that!! I couldn't believe my $1/day legal plan just saved me $60,000.00. I'll be a member for life."

IMPORTANT PSA:📣I don't know who needs to hear this, but get your affairs in order:
💰Make sure all bank accounts have direct beneficiaries. The beneficiary need only go to the bank with your death certificate and an ID of their own.
🏡 TOD = Transfer-On-Death deed if you own a home. Completing this document and filing it with your county saves your heirs THOUSANDS. This document allows you to transfer ownership of your home to your designee. All they need to do is take their ID and your death certificate to the county building, and the deed is signed over. Doing this will avoid the home having to go through probate.
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦Living Will: Allows one to put in writing exactly what you want done in the event you cannot speak for yourself when it comes to healthcare decisions as well as other final decisions.
👩🏽‍⚖️Durable Power of Attorney: Allows one to designate a person to make legal decisions if one is no longer competent to do so.
🏥Power of Attorney for Healthcare: This document allows one to designate someone to make healthcare decisions for their person.
🛍Last Will and Testament: Designates to whom personal belongings will go too.
🪦Funeral Planning Declaration: allows one to say exactly one’s wishes as far as disposition of the body and the services.
If the above documents are done, you can AVOID probate.
If all the above is NOT done, you have to open an estate account at the bank. All money that doesn’t have direct beneficiaries goes into this account. You have to have an attorney to open the estate account. The attorney also has to publicize your passing in the newspaper or post publication at the county courthouse, to allow anyone to make a claim on your property. - It’s a complete PAIN.
📚 💳Make a list of all banks and account numbers, all investment institutions with account numbers, lists of credit cards, utility accounts, etc. Leave clear instructions as to how and when these things are paid.
Make sure heirs knows where life insurance policies are located. 📂
📝Make 100% sure SOMEONE knows your Apple ID, bank ID account logins and passwords!
🚗 Make sure you have titles for all vehicles, campers, etc!
Set up a trust for intended beneficiaries that are too young, and appoint a trustee of said trust.
MOST IMPORTANTLY!!!! - Talk with those closest to you and make all your wishes KNOWN. Talk to those whom you’ve designated, as well as those close to you whom you did not designate. - Do this to explain why your decisions were made and to avoid any lingering questions or hurt feelings.
⚡️Hope this helps! Hope this lights a spark to encourage all your friends and family to take care of these things to make it easier for those we all leave behind! My hope is that the above list at least helps you start an important conversation with your loved ones.

Abner Louima is a Haitian American man who, in 1997, was physically attacked, brutalized, and r***d by officers of the New York City Police Department after he was arrested outside a Brooklyn nightclub. His injuries were so severe that he required three major surgeries.
