Prosecutorial authority should be exercised not merely to secure convictions, but to pursue justice—including proportionality, rehabilitation, and genuine opportunities for redemption when appropriate.

A system that treats punishment as the only measure of success can lose sight of the fact that people can change, circumstances matter, and justice is supposed to serve society rather than simply maximize convictions.

At the same time, prosecutors have a duty to protect victims and the public, so mercy and redemption shouldn't mean ignoring serious harm. The stronger principle is accountability with humanity: consequences where necessary, but discretion to recognize rehabilitation, remorse, and opportunities for a person to become a productive member of society.

(I cover a lot of courts in a lot of jurisdictions. Fortunately, I am incredibly blessed to work with an exceptional group of law-enforcement officers and prosecutors. )

However, there is one Commonwealth Attorney’s office in the 28th judicial district that needs to figure this out. If your general attitude about prosecuting is “hang em high” just because you can. .. you have lost all sense of humanity.
