With the legislative session nearing its end many bills and amendments are sneaking through that shouldn't! There are MANY that I could bring your attention to, but this one needs your help fast. A floor amendment to HB 5 was just voted on and your reps and senators need to hear from you. Use the link below or call your reps now! This bill gives immunity to non-government contractors who negligently injure or kill foster children. The reasons this needs to be stopped are many, but review the bill and if you agree PLEASE CONTACT YOUR REPS.

Did you know that attorneys are one of the very few professions unable to address social media complaints/reviews etc.?

Why?

Because attorneys are bound by client confidentiality and privilege. I tell you this so that when you see "reviews" of attorneys on line you understand that there are always two sides to every story and the one getting posted on line is not always complete. Meet your lawyer before you decide something about them. Lawyers are bound by some of the highest ethical standards around, but typically are called liars, cheats and thieves more than actual liars, cheats and thieves. There are bad apples in every profession, but the majority of attorneys are fatally honest and upstanding.

Working on a few "Injury Lady Says" Blogs this week, but in the meantime I wanted to reach out to you all on an issue that has been coming up frequently lately. After an accident, people often assume that the "at fault party" (more discussion on fault in a blog) is going to just simply fix it. This is not the case. The insurance company for the "at fault party" is going to work for their insured...not you. I encourage everyone to speak with your insurance agent and make sure that you have full coverage, rental car options, whatever you need to ensure that if you are involved in an accident you can be up and rolling as quickly as possible. This is not always, in fact, most of the time, not going to occur as quickly as you need if you are waiting on the other party's insurance. I am certain this will lead to questions and feel free to ask away, just remember that nothing posted is considered legal advice. When you are involved in a car wreck with a commercial motor vehicle such as an 18-Wheeler, a Trash Truck, an oil field truck, a water hauling truck, etc., please know that the companies employing that driver will immediately begin their investigation and build their case against you. I encourage you to contact a lawyer immediately.

This video is appalling. I don't know that anyone knows enough yet to know whether or not this gentleman was intoxicated or simply texting while driving. But this video should be used by everyone to understand and help others understand the ramifications of distracted driving.

Not the lightest topic to discuss; however, I think everyone should be aware of the statistics. They are both depressing and shocking. But if you are not armed with information, you cannot make an informed decision and you cannot teach your friends and families to make an informed decision.
