A strong woman’s voice in politics and leadership is not granted because it is inherent, It speaks not because it is permitted, but because truth must be spoken. Intimidation thrives on silence, yet such a voice is forged in resistance and anchored in conviction. Power fears clarity more than noise. To silence it is to misunderstand it. This voice is larger than fear, larger than force, and impossible to contain. History reminds us that truth always outlives oppression.
"STOP MISUNDERSTANDING A WOMAN'S VOICE, TRY TO GET THE MESSAGE IN IT AND LEAVE THE REST".

**PRESS STATEMENT
Workers in Informal Economy Network Uganda (WIENU)
Commemoration of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence
03 December 2025**

Workers in Informal Economy Network Uganda (WIENU) joins the rest of the world in commemorating the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, a global campaign that runs from 25th November to 10th December each year. This year’s observance reinforces the urgent call to end all forms of violence, discrimination, and exploitation faced by women, men, and youth working within Uganda’s informal economy.

WIENU recognizes that informal economy workers—such as market vendors, street and waste collectors, domestic workers, transport operators, and artisans—are often exposed to heightened risks of harassment, unsafe working conditions, and economic vulnerability. Gender-based violence remains a barrier to their dignity, productivity, and full participation in economic and community development.

As an organization committed to amplifying the voices and rights of informal workers, WIENU reaffirms its dedication to:

Promoting safe and violence-free workspaces for all informal economy workers.

Strengthening awareness and reporting mechanisms to ensure survivors can access justice and support services.

Engaging community leaders, employers, and local authorities to champion zero tolerance for gender-based violence.

Empowering women and youth through rights education, economic resilience programs, and leadership development.

WIENU calls upon government agencies, civil society partners, and all stakeholders to work collectively toward creating inclusive, just, and protective environments where every worker can thrive free from violence and discrimination.

Ending Gender-Based Violence is not only a moral imperative—it is essential for sustainable development and social justice.

Together, let us speak out, stand up, and act to end GBV in Uganda’s informal economy.

🌍 WIENU STATEMENT ON THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES.
3rd December 2025 🇺🇬

Today, WIENU joins the world in commemorating the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, a day dedicated to promoting the rights, dignity, and full inclusion of persons with disabilities in all aspects of society.

We reaffirm our commitment to building communities where no one is left behind, and where persons with disabilities have equal access to opportunities, services, and meaningful participation in economic and social development.

WIENU recognizes the strength, resilience, and contributions of persons with disabilities—especially those in the informal economy—and remains dedicated to advocating for inclusive policies, accessible work environments, and supportive systems that empower all individuals.

As we observe this day, WIENU calls upon partners, communities, and stakeholders to work together toward a more inclusive, equitable, and barrier-free society.

Inclusion is not charity—it's a right.
Together, we can create a world where everyone thrives.

📌 WIENU STATEMENT ON WORLD AIDS DAY.

Today, as the world commemorates World AIDS Day, WIENU stands in solidarity with all individuals, families, and communities affected by HIV/AIDS. This day reminds us of our shared responsibility to promote dignity, inclusion, and access to health services for everyone—without stigma or discrimination.

We honor the strength of those living positively, celebrate the progress made in prevention and treatment, and reaffirm our commitment to raising awareness, supporting vulnerable groups, and advancing an inclusive response to HIV/AIDS within the informal economy and wider communities.

At WIENU, we believe that “Positive living isn’t a crime—care for them, they’re part of us.”
Let us continue to educate, support, and advocate for a society where everyone can live healthy and productive lives.

Together, we can end stigma.
Together, we can break barriers.
Together, we can create a future free from HIV/AIDS.
